substrate for cherries?

I was looking at starting a new cherry tank and wanted to try the benibachi soil. However upon further research it seems that its too acidic. i was just wondering if anyone has kept cherries with this soil? otherwise, what would be a good soil to use? it probably wont be planted, itll just have mosses.

alot of people do it when mixing cherry variants with Crs etc etc

But if its specifically for cherries I would go with an inert gravel as they absolutely thrive in the proper conditions suited to them :)

I have kept Cherries in Benibachi tanks but the breeding for the first generation is definately slower. As 2OFUS said inert substrate works really well and also some of the substrates that don't buffer so low like Fluval Shrimp Stratum. It's not as good as Benibachi for other varieties but it does only buffer to 6.5 which the Cherries tolerate much better. I also think some of the ADA soils are ok although I haven't used them.

Go a black dimond quartz gravel will bring the colours out nicely and as already said its inert and perfect for cherries

Thoughts in Fluval shrimp stratum as vs the above?

It's fine for cherrys. But If it's for a Cherry tank, why pay the extra for fluval substrate when cheaper inert gravel does the job just as well? And you can get inert gravel in a myriad of colours to suit your taste/mood. BTW I replied to your other post on substrates with an overview of all the (common) substrates we can find in Aus.

Thanks mate, I'm pretty keen on trying to keep a planted tank with shrimp so the substrate in this case is probably more important for the plants than the shrimp
