ok so i thought i better post a bit about myself...

me and my brother both have the aquarium bug haha

im 23, started off with tanks in 2005 playing around with planted community after about 3-4 years we moved house and i gave my fish and tanks away to a friend

fast forward a few years and i decided one day i wanted another tank... so i just shot down to an aquarium store got a tank 3 footer with light and stand w/e basic starter kit ph test heater ph down general crap u get when u know nothing

after i had this tank for a bit with just rocks in the bottom and some struggling plants i started looking around on the net and i found a forum in my local area dedicated to fish keeping hahah wow..

after i found this forum one day a generous member posted 2 2ft tanks for free and it was like 5 minutes from my house, so i got these 2 tanks and put them on a bench in the shed, i had these 2 tanks 1 looked pretty bad so i decided i was going to cut it apart and re stick it together,(i figured how hard can making a square be right?) back to youtube

so i cycled the tank using some longfin BN's the old way...  10%-20% wcs everyday for 5-6 weeks, you know when you don't have 15 sponges running, anyways appistos moved in and long story short they breed and i had to use the other tank 1 for parents 1 for fry about 50 fry

then i discovered L# Catfish and i wanted some...

so i had about 9 tanks now and my parents house sold..... so we were moving, 2 moves later and 1 more to go im at 11 tanks or so now just started playing around with pressurized c02 for plants, and the only shrimp i keep are chameleon/ninja and white bees, ive been struggling with them but i found out now that my 500 ppm tap water wasn't the best for them....gh 11 kh5 sitting on top of a fridge at 17 degrees.... outnumbered by ninja shrimp 10 to one

so i had to get the ro water/Distilled and get some salty shrimp minerals and some benbachi bee balls, heater. now WP 200 ppm gh 7 kh 3 temp 21 im looking at the benbachi mineral powder,as i also think im having moulting problems one of my shrimp looked really weird when it was on the sponge the other day like it wasn't fully developed it's shell was like... weird, thin, not there?

after i moved the tank around a bit the next day i noticed a few dead guys so i did a decent water change now i have about 2-3 adults left after reading on here maybe im putting the water in to fast but its only 10% change run through an airline 10 mins for 4 liters?

the thing thats making me wonder whats going on is theres baby shrimp still loving it in there and i thought even the slightest parameter swings would have knocked the little guys off first, so im guessing its a CA deficiency or MG as the tank is about 3 months old....and the more mature shrimp need more of it(CA,MG) for there shells then the little guys???

so i pmed my fish store guy (Ollie at Aquotix) and he got some info from one of your members and told me to check out the site and join up :) and buy some mineral powder

but on the good news side of it i have noticed about 20 baby shrimpletts swimming around and i fed them some banana today as i was reading some posts they loved it hahah mainly feed them IAL,Kale Tablets

everything settled now deaths have stopped i think it was due to me dropping the tds down a little fast for them combined with catching all the ninja shrimp out of the tank disturbing it all, Could have also been a predatory thing? white shrimp try to change shell and get eaten from ninjas?

did i write to much ahhahah

That shrimp itself survived the molt just fine, but left about half dozen eggs still in the shell. I haven't measured KH in a really long time, but assume it is zero since I don't have any rocks besides a few small pieces of lava rock.  Maybe you have unwanted rocks in your tank?  My tank is the "long" style which I really like because I have a HMF on one end, and a pump outlet spout that shoots water all the way to the other end.  I have no idea how many shimp it can support because I don't really understand waste management in a tank.  Shrimp poop eventually turns into mulm, but then what?

Thats a great photo, beautiful blue bolt, I hope it survived the molt without dropping the eggs! I think I can just about see some black dots (eyes) on the central egg but can't be 100% sure. I used to (and plan to again) do weekly water change of 10-15% but if you do too large or quick (not drip in new water) that would likely trigger a molt. What KH are they in, my new setup is sitting at (and refusing to budge) KH 3 and PH 7.5 so I may have to settle for neocaridina shrimp this time as opposed to the caridina I want, though not looking/deciding just yet, give the tank a bit more of a run in! Tap water here starts at kH 14, tds 320, when filtered goes to KH 0 and PH 6 but when put in the tank keeps going to KH3 and PH 7.5 despite 3 x 50% water changes???? You may be at 'maximum capacity' with only 20L tank especially if the tank is a cube type rather than shallow type?

Right now this tank only has blue bolts and golden bee (red bolts?).  The eggs start off all brown, but at the end, I notice that some are kind of a clear pink-ish color.  So I don't know if that is the egg color of dud or golden bee.  Picture of shrimp only about half hour before molting. The water is always RO + remineralizer, so it should be ok. The tank seems to still be on a "good streak" ever since I started the regimen of weekly water change, monthly gravel vac and plant trim.  The point being to keep the amount of waste low and removing moss / floating plants so that the nitrates go towards growing algae.  At one point, I had three berried females, but only netted about half dozen babies by the end, due to this early molting problem.  There might be about 30-40 shrimp total in 5 gallons, but still very few full-sized adults.
