Can anyone tell me if this plant is a Crypt or a Sword? It has a small corm? sitting just above the root line and as the picture shows sends pups out on a stem. I've had it for a long time , it has got slightly bushier and constantly sends out the runner with the pups. It has been growing in a low light tank and has never had fertiliser in the year that I have had it. this picture shows it in a gravel substrate but that was short term while i set up my new tanks, at the moment it is in Fluval stratum. i have about 20 pups/plants growing now and I'm not really sure what to do with them so first thing is to find out what it is. :Scratch-Head:

Yes considering it has been woefully neglected it has been very active and I have a lot of young plants from it. It had 3 runners active but only 1 is active at the moment. it was originally in with my Bristlenose and they loved to be on it's leaves so it looks a bit rough but I just take the worst leaves off and the new growth is good. Bristlenose are a bit rough on their leaves but in my ignorance I didn't know that at the time.:o

Must be the right time of year, mine has two pups growing out too, almost identical!! It seemed to send out the runner just after I transplanted it into new substrate!

Amazing to see so many runners Ineke, well done!!

Thanks Jamie but in my case it's neglect over good care :(

Thanks Shrimp Aqua , I don't mind not knowing which type it is just good to know it is a sword. If I keep getting the pups I will have to start giving them away . It's a shame they grow so big as I quite like them but they just aren't good in small shrimp tanks :)

Hey Ineke if you like sword plants there are some small varieties about, for a really nice visual try and get Red Horemani these mostly stay below the water surface but need high light to maintain the red colour, great plant.

My lighting is not good enough. I have just bought some Dwarf chain sword and planted it in my big tank as that has the best lighting.

Looks a sword plant to me as well. I think you may be able to grow swords emersed in high humidity. You could test a few pups by putting them into a clear container with a suitable moist substrate and plastic wrap covered to keep humidity up. I think some types of swords can even adapt to low humidity as well (though submersed leaves will die off then new better adapted leaves will grow back).
