BB x CBS Minchling results!!!

Gbang

Recommended Posts

i never expected this to happen so soon and i've been dreaming of it for soooooooo long. but after getting some cbs minchlings and BB from Dean, with the use of benibachi soil, ro bee shrimp mix and oxydators. i finally have some KK and Panda fry!!!!!!!!

majority of shrimp are cbs and crs minchlings but at least 25% are pure taiwan bees. Parents were a BB male and CBS minchling female. thought i could possibly get blue bolts but i got kk panda instead, which i am definately not complaining about.

thank you very much Dean for all the advice and help. i now have babies :DDDDDD

Great work Gbang .... exciting times ! It's easy when you have the right tools & advise....had the same success with the benebachi, salty shrimp & oxydator, so no doubt it's a great combo.

Converted all my tanks to beninachi soils 6-9 months ago.....Thank Goodness for that !!!...Yes, and thanks to Dean !

Doesn't it feel like the pressure is off now ! LOL.....can sit back, relax, and enjoy the hobby even more now !

i believe the cheapest price for kk and panda is $500 and $600 for blue bolts so far. expensive as hell but well worth it in my opinion. amazing shrimps.

thanks lachie, to be honest though it's a fairly new tank so the moss hasn't really sprouted yet. haven't needed a chiller yet due to winter but i will be getting one very soon now that summer is coming in 2-3 months...might have to sell some minchlings to fund the chiller

i still cannot believe that these pandas and red wines came out of a cbs minchling and blue bolt!

but at least 25% are pure taiwan bees

Just a quick one, not being pedantic; pure TB's as in phenotype not Genotype right as the whole point of the Mischling stage is to toughen their genes up some?

Yes I believe so. But to be honest I don't know much about genotypes and phenotypes. Maybe bob knows? I gotta do some scientific research!!!! What I have noticed is that the further the generation the higher numbers of tb babies if u keep crossing minchling with tb. Example. My f2 has produced approx 2-5 tb per batch. But if u look at deans thread he has an f3-4 girl that produced more than 75 percent tb!!!!

Thanks Gbang, percentages are good too. It would be nice if a friendly geneticist took ornamental shrimp sequencing on a hobby so we could see what really goes on in there. :encouragement:

That'll make selective breeding and the hobby rather boring.....the uncertainty, discussions, and varying opinions are all great...especially the unexpected variations...although it would be great cheating a little and getting a WCE shrimp .....

Thanks, day 2 in the tank and the shrimp seem fine (not done roll call yet today), I saw 9 (got 11) yesterday and no dead bodies  so I 'assume' the other 2 were hiding somewhere. I drip acclimated them over night so they had a longer acclimate and hopefully that helped, but it is early days yet, however so far so good. I am looking forward to getting blue bolts at the end of the week but I doubt they will be as pretty as yours, but at this point I will be happy enough as long as they survive. That will be the lot this time so I am calling this tank 'bruiser tank' as it will only be mixed 'black and blue' shrimps!  I don't have any rocks this time just some small pieces of lava rock. The tests I did yesterday show KH is 0-1 (you can't test for 0 obviously) and PH was 7 on the drop test but the disc meter thing in the tank shows yellow so should be below 7 (the nearest match I think is 6.6) but all the test kits show in stages, and it can be difficult to tell when they are just different shades of the same colour. The seller of the shrimps said his tanks were PH 6.8 so we are at least closely matched. GH should go down slowly with the regular water changes/maintenance etc so hopefully the shrimp can handle it being a little high temporarily, seller had GH 5-6 (I assume 6 drops) and mine is just on 7. I am pleased with the sparser/simpler tank and the fact I can just glance over and see it when I am in my usual seat is great. I have a stick on thermometer so shouldn't have a similar disaster to before and have the heater set cooler at 21 this time, though in summer the tank will go above that most of the time. Hope everything is fine with yours!

Good luck.  I hope the Ph / KH issue is under control.  If not... Maybe use peat? Edit:  looking at a previous picture - maybe you should just remove those rocks for now

My lil emerald green. It's a lot harder taking macro shots with 15mm glass tanks.
