SS mesh turning brown/bronze..

Is the SS mesh still shrimp safe? or should i replace it? :/

Currently i have no shrimps yet, the tank is still cycling... need some advise!

I think the SS is rusting? Rust is okay for shrimps

If the tank is still cycling, it cant have been in there for long.

Are you sure its rust and not just some brown algae

Ive had this happen too but it wasn't rust just brown algae which is common when cycling a tank.

I didn't suspect it was brown diatoms because my filter pipes are still clean, and no other trace of this brown stuff except on my SS. I bought this SS mesh off ebay, and it was the quality of the SS which i suspect.

Anyway here is a picture from my iphone, not the best of picture, hopefully it can shed some light to what it is, else i will have to dig out my DSLR and try for a clearer picture.

Not rust just green algae

Ive had the same thing in my ss mesh

Yeah looks like algae to me. :encouragement:

The mesh is still relatively clear of moss.

Take it out and give it a scrub with a brush. you'll find out if it's algae pretty quickly.
