Hey guys, I am considering trying to get some mischlings or Tigerbees for a new tank I am setting up in a few months, I was just wondering if anyone in Australia has produced these and if so, what would a rough price be for them?

hi matt,

almost every one with KK, RW, BB has mishlings. :) if you purchas any make sure they are at least F2 as only F1 females are usefull but F2 F3 etc males and females are good as they produce Tai in there offspring. only low % but good all the same :)

Yep, several members here with minchlings .... in the range of $25-$50 each....no diff in cost with patterns (i.e. A-SSS)....if you're after some, just PM me on qty's etc... TB's depending on type/budget. $ has dropped massively over the past 1-2 months, WR $300 & KK $500 +/-$50 ....

Dean was advertising some 2+ weeks ago...

Thanks guys! I will be setting up my next tank when I sell some of the offspring of the shrimp I have now to fund my next lot of shrimp. I will message you when I am ready Marcus, I'm far to broke right now to get any. And sorry, I got mmyself mixed up, I meant Tigerbees and not Taibees.

Sorry to derail this thad but what precentage of mishling/taibee etc do you get when a minshling x CRS? Also, Half mishling x CRS and mishling x mishling? :)

Mischling x CRS should be 25% mischling and 75% CRS assuming all young survive. What is a half mischling? mischling x mischling should be 25% mischling, 25% taibee and 50% CRS. Assuming the Taiwan bee is a recessive gene which from memory it is.

Edit: am I spelling it right? Is it mischling? Mischling is German for hybrid so I assumed I had it right.

Minchlings are basically the product of CRS/CBS x with a TB (Taiwan Bee - King Kong (KK), Wine Red (WR) or Blue Bolts (BB)), so they carry the TB genetics. It's shrimp lets (i.e. minchlings) will be a CRS/CBS, as TB genes are recessive....but when you cross a minchling back with a TB, you'll get a certain % of TB's.

Most breeders will initially X their TB's with CRS/CBS, to get the genetics through their program, and then breed them back to a TB.... better their chances/odds etc...

Thus there's several minchlings around this forum.....

What is the difference in keeping mischlings or taibees vs cbr or CBS? Are their requirements really so different ???

Their requirements/WP are the same , but TB's are more susceptible to WP fluctuations, bacteria attacks etc, and do demand great water quality. Once these are understood and provided to them, they are fairly easy to keep.

There requirement are almost the same but TB are more sensitive to sudden change in the water. Also TB have a thicker shell so moulting is more difficult then the normal crystal.

You don't have to but it just makes sense to, when you remineralize the RO water the WP will be exactly what you want right from the start instead constantly of fighting all the time to correct what your tap water is :victorious:

Blackcat, im finding that i need to use RO now to keep the TDS down.

Most keepers talk about having their TDS around 150, my water comes out of the tap ~300, and thats before adding dechlorinator/minerals/food/waste. :/

      Thanks, day 2 in the tank and the shrimp seem fine (not done roll call yet today), I saw 9 (got 11) yesterday and no dead bodies  so I 'assume' the other 2 were hiding somewhere. I drip acclimated them over night so they had a longer acclimate and hopefully that helped, but it is early days yet, however so far so good. I am looking forward to getting blue bolts at the end of the week but I doubt they will be as pretty as yours, but at this point I will be happy enough as long as they survive. That will be the lot this time so I am calling this tank 'bruiser tank' as it will only be mixed 'black and blue' shrimps!  I don't have any rocks this time just some small pieces of lava rock. The tests I did yesterday show KH is 0-1 (you can't test for 0 obviously) and PH was 7 on the drop test but the disc meter thing in the tank shows yellow so should be below 7 (the nearest match I think is 6.6) but all the test kits show in stages, and it can be difficult to tell when they are just different shades of the same colour. The seller of the shrimps said his tanks were PH 6.8 so we are at least closely matched. GH should go down slowly with the regular water changes/maintenance etc so hopefully the shrimp can handle it being a little high temporarily, seller had GH 5-6 (I assume 6 drops) and mine is just on 7. I am pleased with the sparser/simpler tank and the fact I can just glance over and see it when I am in my usual seat is great. I have a stick on thermometer so shouldn't have a similar disaster to before and have the heater set cooler at 21 this time, though in summer the tank will go above that most of the time. Hope everything is fine with yours!

      Good luck.  I hope the Ph / KH issue is under control.  If not... Maybe use peat? Edit:  looking at a previous picture - maybe you should just remove those rocks for now

      My lil emerald green. It's a lot harder taking macro shots with 15mm glass tanks.
