Are shrimps territorial?

Recommended Posts

Shrimplyf

Hey guys!

So today I dropped an algae wafer into my tank and watched as two of my cherry shrimps were fighting over it on my driftwood (I even have a video of this). I know fighting over food is normal behavior, but it seems like from lunchtime both of them are still extremely angry at each other. The food is now all eaten up yet they are still fighting with each other on the driftwood and it's been hours since lunch. Every time one of them is even remotely close to the either they would kick each other. I hope one doesn't eventually get hurt :(

Have you guys had aggressive shrimp?

Yes. Macrobrachium spp. can be territorial/aggressive :victorious:.

I've seen this kind of behaviour too. i think its just social hierarchy or territoriality, some shrimp can be more dominant than others.

I doubt your shrimp will hurt each other. They have pretty tough exoskeletons.
