shrimp stocking rates

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone has ever looked at stocking rates for shrimp as in shrimp/foot square sa. And if there are differences in species or grades. One would assume that red cherries can be stocked at a higher rate that kk but is that only opinion or fact. Obviously filtration and set up would make a difference in rates. But what are peoples thoughts on how far it can be pushed safely. In aquaculture the term biomass is used as in 100gm total mass per sq foot maybe that would apply and be more accurate. But id perfer to work it out in shrimp numbers easier than trying to calculate mass

Pretty sure there was a thread discussing this recently.....

I have a 60 lt tank that has approx 140 TB's and 40 cherries, so ratio of 3 shrimps to every 1 lt. As you've mentioned, it all depends on the filter and water changes.. Etc

The key is the filtration and water quality. I have found that the biggest contributing factor in my own tanks is surface area.

the more surface area in a tank the higher rates of stocking. i use sponges from my sponge filters just floating in the bottom of the tank for this and it works a treat.

But you should also note that the higher the stocking rates the quicker it can all go pair shaped when something goes wrong. hedge your bets and keep medium density in a few tanks over high density in a single tanks :)

Sorry bb I must have missed that thread. So u work on the tank volume for your stocking ratio. Do u find that breeding and growing stop at a certain stocking rate? I was thinking that it would work better to work out on sq ft due to the surface area of the tank being the limiting factor for habitat.

Thans for your reply dean do u have a formular u work too. I dont want to go to any extremities I simply want to know what is possible. Also do u beleive that different varieties handle different stock rates ie. Bees-tigers-cherries.

Or even grades ie a grade crs- sss grade crs.
