Stand, cabinet and building/materials

Almost time to get the nano tank populated which means I'm turning my gaze toward the new tank. I've realised now that 125Lt of water just can't sit anywhere so I want to build a stand. I hae a couple of ideas, but am wondering what has anyone used before I was thinking either 12-17mm ply or solid pine. Not being carpenter-ily minded (sure that's a word, I just used it in a sentence! :p) what kind of materials could I look at? I'm thinking particle would be out (unless it was laminated) same with craft-board. Any input would be most welcome!

I always use 35 x 70 pine and have built up to 4 foot stands using that, with 70 x 70 pine legs. I have built bigger but used bigger timber.

There is dozens of tried and trusted designs out there, so have a look and make your call on what you like.

Yeah I used 35 x 70 & 12mm ply as the sides & doors fro my 2x1.5x1.5, worked a treat :encouragement:

Thanks squiggle :) idea is forming just need to sketch. Did you use 35x70 as load bearing too? Or larger like northboy suggested?

My 3ft stand was made from 35x70 pine and its fine. What is more important is the design of the bracing and supports to make it stable :)

For the top I think ply is advisable, for cabinet cladding you can use mdf if you make sure to seal the timber.

Yeah, 35x70 for load bearing & 35x35 for square frame top & bottom, then clad the sides with 12mm, also the floor inside the stand & door, I'll try & post some pics after work for ya :victorious:
