If you're nice :p I'm uploading them now, some kind hearted person took the batteries out to charge it.. Without telling me, luckily I had my phone, it takes pretty good shots for a phone.

And Wayne, that would be fun, I think there would be some nice shrimp up near you, I'm coming up your way for a holiday in December. We couldn't fit you in any of our trips, my mates car only has two seats.

This is where I found the new shrimp, they will be called Caridina sp. "Brisbane 2" in my tanks until I have had them formally identified. The habitat is completely different to the 1's, it's a series of pools with no water flow that would connect up when it rains, they're stagnant and you can't see more than a few cm into the water, it's very deep in some areas but I found all the shrimp in shallow areas where I could reach the leaf litter. I didn't get any water from here, I brought them home in saturated leaf litter, I am glad I had the net, that's all I had on me!

This is the habitat of Caridina sp. "Brisbane 1" it looks like it has flooded within the last month, water hyacinth has been washed down, it's a shame, I've never seen it here before, at least it doesn't thrive in most areas of the creek....

the water moved pretty fast in the shallow sections, you can see the orange silt I speak of. The shrimp don't live in this area though.

Only had one bucket, I didn't want to mix the species, I wasn't even looking for shrimp, I was after yabbies to show my American friend.

This is where the orange ones live, they don't sit on the silt on the bottom, they hang out on the palm fronds (I need to find me some palm fronds) they sit out in the open very easy to see when they move onto a darker rock. These little pools form underneath dams made by vegetation that gets stuck between trees. Sorry for the reflection, these fronds were covered in shrimp.

Less shrimp in the deep leaf litter, lots of predatory insect larvae though.

That's a really beautiful spot. I've never been actually able to spot shrimp above the waters surface that's a really nice photo.

Thanks guys, it is a fantastic creek, lots of wildlife and plantlife. I found some bones as well

I've put 4 specimens in 70% alcohol, just waiting for them to kick the bucket now. And so far so good, no deaths, I haven't caught enough though.... I will have to return, I only have about 30, hopefully all survive to save me a trip!!

I've done the same as you Matt here in mackay I've caught a heap of local shrimp they look very similar to the pics you posted I've got about 500 or so as I'm only 5 mins away form the goose ponds as it is called where I catch them so they are easily available to me

Sorry, I missed your post, no they don't, once on another coloured surface they change.

They haven't been identified, I have an idea of what it could be and I can ID that myself once I am not so sick.

Only two have died so I have about 15, I will still need to get some more.

Thanks Wayne, just recovering now. I am having success with this lot, I lost 2 out of 17. I am just using Brisbane tap water, it's fairly hard and has a PH of between 7.2 and 7.4. I've added Spagnum moss (not peat!), dried water hyacinth leaves, coconut shells, IAL and marimo. They seem to love it. I will collect more soon so I can share them around, I didn't collect as many as I had thought.
