Time Out -Auto Log Out

Is this normal ?

I was typing a reply to a thread, which took 1/2 an hour to compile and complete the relevant info. When I clicked submit, I was requested to refresh the page and log back in.

When I did so all the information I had typed into the quick reply was gone. Talk about frustrating.

It is quite possible. While you are typing in the text box, the site doesn't know if you are still interacting with it or not. It's a standard security measure on most sites so that people don't walk away forgetting that they are still logged in (i.e. internet cafe). There should be a save draft button that lets you save as a draft as you go along before publishing the post.

Thanks Nogi .... All that info typed and lost was annoying to say the least.

I've had similar experience, BUT blame the iPad for the issue, as I refreshed the page without ensuring the reply was actually sent. Admittedly, found re-typing it for the 2nd time a lot quickr, and response was better...so go on Cookster, give it another go !

Nogi is correct in that the forum has an auto timeout feature which is in place

To optimize the browsing experience for every user.

If you do get the screen saying you need to log back in, just log in and reload the same page!

Although it may log you out there is also a auto save feature that saves the work you have done

And once you reload the page it will automatically load the saved work. Providing you have not gone else where

On the forum or tried to open a new page.

I think there may even be a tab at bottom left of text box that asked if you would like to reload auto saved content!

I am not one to give up easily and I joined this forum to be an active contributor and knowledge recipient... I will try and load the page again now, but it is probably too late, as I have been to several threads since then and left replies :)

Also thanks Bluebolts, I drew on my memory for the info I was supplying to a thread, and when I lost it all ... I got a little 'angry' hahaha ....

It worked ;) ... at least some of the info was still there in the auto save restore function... Thank you for directing me to that VERY useful feature...

As BB said, great work dude, any contribution you have for this forum is an awesome one. The great thing about this forum is everyone has either great questions or great answers, or in Master Yoda BB's case, great foresight. I know it's a bummer as it's happened to me dozens of times, especially when I'm uploading pics to photobucket & come back to the forum only to find the info gone. I love the "restore saved content" button, saved me a number of times :victorious:

i've never had this problem and i can leave a reply typed for ages and come back later. I have ticked the keep me logged in or remember my details tho :) its only my phone one that logs me out

yeah +1 on the not liking the time out and having to re enter usernames.

is there any way to turn it off?
