ID and help!

Hi guys,

I bought this moss a while ago as rose moss with some other plants i purchased, i introduced co2 in the tank two days ago and it suddenly went all yellow.. could it be going yellow from co2? wouldnt it flourish from the introduction of co2?

anyways i moved it to my other tank that doesnt have co2, but i was also wondering if it is rose moss? it kinda looks like the star moss that was going around recently but i doubt it is. i cant really find any clear pics online of what rose moss looks like so im not sure

Oh another question, i have us fissidens which i recently trimmed and moved it to this tank as well under the same kinda cermic plate with the cover and half of it underneither has gone brown! what have i done wrong?

Does look like rose moss. BUT difficult to tell with the pic shown. Can you post up a tank pic. I've found that certain type of mosses do better in semi-shady areas of the tank. Do you dose with excel ? use hydro peroxide etc ?

ummm yeh i did spot dose it with excel once or twice probably a week ago because there was a bit of hair algae on it. could that of harmed it?

Perhaps spot dosing with excel may have caused this... mosses react differently to excel, peroxide etc... Hopefully it'll recover to its full glory.

Hey Justin, I think it is Star moss actually. It looks similar to the Star moss that I have, although it is hard to tell in your pic as it's squashed under the mesh.

ah yeh i cant take any better pics i tried but next time you take macro shots doron can you take one of your star moss and i can see if its similar?

It's star moss.

Normally, spot dosing moss with excel or peroxide is not a good idea as they will most likely turn brown and possibly die off. I find that frequent baths in a diluted excel or peroxide solution works better; Not recommended for star moss though as its leaves are too fragile.

Nice! that means i bought rose moss ended up with star moss haha, but that plate has about 75% of it gone yellowish, really hoping that it'll recover!

Yeap I'm pretty sure it's star moss. Mine didn't do too well in my sshrimp tank so I put them in my plant tank with co2 and now the mosses have recoverd.
