Crystal Blue Shrimp

BlueBolts

Thanks to Brado & Honcho for answering my previous call for a crystal blue shrimp (F). The shrimplets didn't appear to carry fwd the genetics traits, so I decided to throw in a blue bolt instead ....

I have four cbs similar to yours posted above bb, I showed gino a few pics of them ages ago while picking up rilli's but thought it was due to stress or new wp but they have stayed a nice bluish. One girl has dropped once and I can't see any blue in her babies yet would be good if we could get these going

Nice bb to man

Gbang - Have noticed the blue in several CBS, as its perhaps the base colour of "black", per your post on the blue cherry. On stress periods, the lower grade CBS can EXHIBIT this colouration too.... Have never done any selective breeding prior to this, but only decided to "sacrifice" a Bluebolt, as this male Crystal Blue Shrimp has a very thick white and blue coat.

Any suggestions how we can name/abbreviate it ?

CRS - Crystal Red Shrimp

CBS - Crystal Black Shrimp

C?S - Crystal Blue Shrimp

How about cbbs, referencing the genes and the creator. I think bb needs to be nicknamed bubba gump. He got all types of shrimp lol. Seriously though awesome work bb, with some of the pics youve put up lately, we should catch up and surpass overseas relatively quickly

Cheers, mick

The blue gene is not internationally seen to be desirable, as it generally appears washed out. Would be great if we can secure the geno, and create a nice solid blue. With a forum structured like SKF, and members sharing/focusing on quality and variants...we're definitely catching up !With time, patience and LUCK, I reckon we'll definitely secure it....eventually. LOLYeah, reckon we need keep the Crystal #### Shrimp format....so as MIXO2U suggest CBLS ? Will perhaps cross that path when we get some results..

I think that between you going for CBLS & Gbang going for the blue cherry from his black cherries & possibly crossing them with a carbon rilli, the two of you should be able to strengthen the blue gene & run with it into cherries & crystals & get some seriously cool results. This is all very exciting stuff & I can't wait to see what us Aussies can come up with. I have some red Rillis with blue genes that I want to play around with to hopefully strengthen the blue too :encouragement:

1- you know I'm not the pioneer of the blue cherry yet right? Deans still the first! Now it's just a case of who produces the first ones that breed true. Come at me dean!!!!! :p

2- the way things are going I should change my name to Gblue lol

3- as a true blue Aussie. I think the ultimate goal would be to produce a green and gold shrimp..... But how..... Omg brain going crazay

Just realized I went off topic!!!! Cbls all the way!!! I think the biggest problem is that all CBS due to the extreme crossing over the years have brown genes theoretically, it could be the same as my cherry programme where we need to breed the town genes out and then line breed via reverse quality. Got any other theories bb?

Dean's Green Cherry x Yellow Rilli. Interestingly, some of the blue velvet have a green hue to them, so the ingredient and concoction is already there to be created ! So updated formula....Dean's Green Cherry x Yellow Rilli x Blue Velvet (Green Hue). :)

Love the idea of crystal blue shrimp! :D You can do it BB!

My ultimate fantasy would still be crystal purple though :p

Maybe they could be called Crystal Sapphire Shrimp or Crystal Navy Shrimp, or something like that? I guess it would depend on the type of blue colour you end up with.

That is a really cool idea for a new name, CSS Crystal Saphine Shrimp, I'd buy a pair of them :encouragement: Come on BB, you can do it! :applause:

Thanks, day 2 in the tank and the shrimp seem fine (not done roll call yet today), I saw 9 (got 11) yesterday and no dead bodies  so I 'assume' the other 2 were hiding somewhere. I drip acclimated them over night so they had a longer acclimate and hopefully that helped, but it is early days yet, however so far so good. I am looking forward to getting blue bolts at the end of the week but I doubt they will be as pretty as yours, but at this point I will be happy enough as long as they survive. That will be the lot this time so I am calling this tank 'bruiser tank' as it will only be mixed 'black and blue' shrimps!  I don't have any rocks this time just some small pieces of lava rock. The tests I did yesterday show KH is 0-1 (you can't test for 0 obviously) and PH was 7 on the drop test but the disc meter thing in the tank shows yellow so should be below 7 (the nearest match I think is 6.6) but all the test kits show in stages, and it can be difficult to tell when they are just different shades of the same colour. The seller of the shrimps said his tanks were PH 6.8 so we are at least closely matched. GH should go down slowly with the regular water changes/maintenance etc so hopefully the shrimp can handle it being a little high temporarily, seller had GH 5-6 (I assume 6 drops) and mine is just on 7. I am pleased with the sparser/simpler tank and the fact I can just glance over and see it when I am in my usual seat is great. I have a stick on thermometer so shouldn't have a similar disaster to before and have the heater set cooler at 21 this time, though in summer the tank will go above that most of the time. Hope everything is fine with yours!

Good luck.  I hope the Ph / KH issue is under control.  If not... Maybe use peat? Edit:  looking at a previous picture - maybe you should just remove those rocks for now

My lil emerald green. It's a lot harder taking macro shots with 15mm glass tanks.
