Possible Vorticella?

Recommended Posts

I have a Vorticella question?  While watching my tank last night, I noticed my oldest female cherry red shrimp had some very white around her mouth, no where else. I’ve never noticed it this white before. Should I treat my tank for Vorticella just in case or am I over reacting?  I suction food out every other day, molts and poop daily and do water changes weekly cleaning the bottom and replace water with RO water and Shrimp GH/KH powder added.  If you think I should treat the tank what the safest most effective way to do so?  This is my first go at keeping shrimp and I’m obsessed 😍

Welcome to the forum!

Try looking at this post, vorticello is the very first mentioned, if you can isolate that shrimp then that would be a good start so you can get a better look and watch the shrimp. Sometimes treatments can cause other problems so you want to be sure before taking action.

Here’s a photo of my girl. I’m thinking she’s okay after reading the shrimp diseases link

Firstly, Welcome to SKFA @Shrimplets

Nothing to worry about with that shrimp pictured above. It's normal.

See this detailed picture courtesy of Chris Lukhaup I borrowed off the internet.

Red Cherry shrimp (Neocaridina davidi) | Care & info

Shrimps have these tiny "hairs" that is probably used to detect movement in the water.

Vorticella is usually on the found on the top of the head, between the eyes.

<edit> Oops, I was thinking of Scutariella.
