120L Setup

Hey guys,

Been keeping fish on and off for 10years but have decided to go a nice shrimp tank now that i have moved.

Its a 120L all in one tank. Ive got filtration etc down.

Planning on keeping yellow cherries or blues

Do i need the expensive substrate like ada amazonia?

Is ro water important for keeping cherries or is rainwater or tap water fine?

Do i need mineral balls?

Any help appreciated. Ill keep on reading through this awesome forum for some knowledge.

Welcome to SKF Zac,

If you are planning to keep cherries then I don't believe you need to use expensive substrates like ADA. Just a good inert gravel or sand is fine. Only thing I would add to this is once you get the shrimp bug it does not take long before you want the other varieties which are easier to keep when you have buffering soils. So just keep that in mind.

Again same as the above. Tap and rainwater is fine for cherry shrimp they will do quite well in it. Just make sure you age the water and use a good water conditioner. Stable water conditions is very important and this is why at the end of the day I think RO water is great for shrimp because you can control exactly what goes into the water.

You don't need mineral balls either but I do use them in my set ups.
