Mysterious shrimplet deaths

Hi,

I have recently discovered, on two separate occasions, shrimplets that had died while hanging on to a strand of moss. The weird things is that it looked normal and alive, and I wouldn't have suspected it only because I got worried when the shrimplet was at the same spot in the same posture for more than two days.

I decided to give it a little prod and it didn't move. It was dead. I had to use a pair of tweezers to pry it off the moss. Otherwise it looked perfectly healthy and normal as if it was grazing on the moss. One was a TBMM panda and the other was a mischling CRS. They were both at about 5mm.

Anyone seen or experienced the same? Any suggestion why this could have happened?

No, they were found dead standing on the moss, just like how a live shrimp looks while grazing, which is why I find it mind boggling. And to find two similar deaths in one week was a bit too much of a coincidence.

 

I thought I'll ask and see if anyone has had a similar experience and could offer an insight or suggestion as to what could have happened.

 

Water parameters are fine and adult shrimps are alive, breeding and happy.

 

Tank has been up and running since Dec 2014. 1 x twin sponge filter + 1 x 1200 LPH canister filter.

 

PH 5.5-5.8, GH 6, KH 0, TDS 170-180, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 0, Temp 22-24.

 

Any help / advice / suggestion would be appreciated.

I remember I had the same problem when I started the red colony.

 

I received 12 juvenile cherries and lost 6. Found 3 of them - at different times- on the substrat, like if they were just waiting, but they were dead.

 

Now everything is fine, but I never found why.

Had 2 CBS mischling deaths this week, found one on the substrate and two days later one on a leaf halfway up the tank standing. Both like they were waiting/grazing.   

Checked water params and all good - I've got one berried female and the rest seem happy. 

Would love to know if anyone figured out what might of happened to cause this?

Heart attack?
I've got this problem too sometimes, can't figure why. Also have seen this once or twice with a adult one, looks like it was instanly frozen. Maybe old.

Could be? But in my case they both were young adults. Yeah, its strange and nothing seemed wrong with the bodies either.

Is it possible that they could of gone into shock or something?

The whole heart attack thing could be interesting to look at further or it could be that they may have just had low immunity and succumb to a disease.

 

Am intrigued to see if something is identified
