Just an update, at 32mm including the tail, the female guppys are sexually mature. They are able to give birth to clutches of around 6-8 fry. What i thought was simply the ovaries (for lack of the technical word) turned out to be a gravid patch. The fry are smaller than traditional Guppy babies and both sexes of Guppy's are still substantially smaller than endlers females.

Only 6-8 fry sounds very little. My endlers (not fully grown) just gave birth fo the first time to about 10-12 fry each. Maybe even more....they ate many of them straight away. :dejection:

I really woud love to see more photos of Poecilia Bobii (Bob's Livebearer).

6-8 fry is expected due to their size i believe. My endlers have up to twenty each and the females are approaching 45mm.

Fancy guppys go 20-40 due to their size.

Endlers normally don't eat their fry, which is why i'm surprised yours did. I've had to put other fish in with the endlers to keep the population down.

Not sure if Bob's guppys will keep growing, hard to tell. I'll put up some pics once the fry are a little larger. They haven't been eaten so far, but that's not to say they wont be.

I also watched them breeding this morning, the males seem to fold their tails for some reason, was freaking out when i saw them with clenched tails thinking something must be wrong, but alas, then they started poking.

Yeah I thought that it was strange they are eating their fry too, they didn't ever do that in my tanks, are you feeding them enough? Maybe they're hungry? Lol :victorious:

Yep, my endlers do exactly the same (although Mr. Sqiggle will probably say that they don't do that in HIS tank ) Maybe Bob's livebearers are endlers after all?

I was surprised too, that the endlers ate the fry, because on the net it mostly says they don't :(. Anyway, I just keep them in my shrimp tank until they get a bit bigger....gotta go now and feed my poor starving endlers some bloodworm. :cower:

Those fish look tiny and their eyes seem to be HUGE! (which makes them very cute)

The colours however look quite pale on the male. It that just the photo/lighting?

The colours are slightly washed out, however that is fairly close to representative of that male. The other one has a bit nicer colours but they are still 60% silver.As far as the huge eyes goes, that is often a sign of malnutrition early in life. I think Bob may tell us that the TDS of the water is quite low, which doesn't support much micro foods for them. When the fry grow in, if they end up larger than the parents, i will know for sure.I have a bad habit of changing the direction of threads, but i had to share this photo too.
