Have i killed my shrimp?

I just finished setting up my chiller and initially had it set to 24 deg c and it indicated the tank was 26.5. once the chiller kicked in and started running my shrimp have started going nutters swimming around t he tank and i am concerned the change in water temp has had a negative impact on them?

Any feedback?

Temp changes should be taken slow, I've found even one or two degrees make my shrimp freak out.

Could you maybe reset the chiller and slowly decrease the temp setting over a few days?

Did you thoroughly rinse your new chiller

lol nope as it is i struggled to set it up.

First i had the wrong size hose wouldnt fit on the chiller, now i have the right size hose for the chiller but the wrong size hose for the canister filter :(

The chiller is not running continuously it is just turning on every few minutes or so, i think it may be possible it is slowly dropping the temp as my thermometer hasnt chAnged and i dont have the canister on full for the above reason i need to buy a hose clamp to add to my canister outlet to stop the leak.

Plus i have a small leak out of the top of the outlet of the chiller :(

put all that on top of my shrimp going nutters. I did also turn the light on at the same time so could it be possible their activity was sparked by the sudden light?

The chiller wouldn't immediately affect the temp too drastically, is the chiller new or 2nd hand or in storage ? Heard several issues with chiller in storage, or 2nd hand chillers that were used for marine etc.... Do a WC, chillers in storage can accumulate 'S$#!", and if not initially rinsed, can blow the crap into the water creating havoc on the WP....

Hey bb so if the chiller is set on 24 and the tank is 26 wouldn't the water coming out of the chiller be 24? I don't have a chiller so that's my excuse for the noob question.

Always gotta rinse stuff before it goes into ya tank, I use a wc bucket and just rinse plants rocks etc in the bucket before putting them in

G'Day mickeyG, yes, but it mixes in with the tank water at 26, and depending on chiller & tank size, does take some time to drop...there's perhaps more sudden temp changes when acclimatising new shrimp. 1-2 degrees isn't really much, considering rainfall temp to river temp would perhaps have more of a sudden temp change ?

Is it just the males swimming around crazily, or the females too? If it is only males they might just be looking for the ladies :)

No casualties thank god :) plus i got my new shrimp from gbang today >< acclimatised them for like 2 hours by drip before increasing flow :) looking forward to them colouring up now.

When i got up my chiller had brought tank down to 24 degrees and maintaining but i have since adjusted the temp to allow it at 25. all my previous breeding occurred at this temp and it gets really hot here so thinking it will decrease the useage of the chiller :)
