Ro water

Hi there.

Did anyone use water softener before ro ?

Is it safe ?

I have a problem here, my tds after ro is 50ppm, hard water here( 500tds , its about 24gh)

For crs tibee, i use di , after ro  and get tds 15ppm

But di dont last a long and its not cheap...

No don't use water softener. It will cause more problems than solving things.

Where are you getting RO water from? Are you buying it from a shop? Or are you making it yourself with an RO filter?

 

If it's your own RO filter, then the filter media needs to be changed.

i make in my self

Ro filters are new...  i had 2 ro system and one ro mebrane is broken ... it read hight tds.

what problem can softener cause ?

It adds too much sodium. TDS will go up.

 

You might have to start collecting rain water if RO filters are not able to cope with your tap water.

For the fancy Caridina, you want low KH, and most people keep them in tanks with 0 KH.

The issue with water softeners is that in order to reduce the GH, they use "KH" (sodium). This lowers your GH, but spikes the KH up. In short, it causes more problems than it corrects. If you were to attempt to use one, I'd recommend running your tap through the water softener, then through your RO machine. Otherwise, wouldn't recommend it.

 

If you can't replace broken membranes, then I'd recommend following jayc's advice and try using rain water if you have access to clean rain water.
