Fresh Water PomPom Crab

Recommended Posts

Baccus

Just doing some random searches online and stumbled across fresh water PomPom crabs ( Ptychognathus barbatus), being sold in a shop in the USA, now the info they have is that there are pockets of these crabs to be found in  Sub tropical parts of Australia along with other areas of the world.

So has anybody ever seen, kept or heard of these being here? They may not be completely shrimp safe but seem to be a relatively safe addition to nano tanks with snails and I guess small peaceful fish. The adults apparently are true fresh water but it is guessed that the larval offspring require brackish much like certain shrimp species.

Don't know if you ever found your answer or found any of them.

Interested in keeping some for something different.

I'm only holidays now, and once the other half is also on holidays we may get to do some local creek exploring. Much safer taking a spotter with me since the risk of crocs is very real. Since I am pretty much right on the Tropic of Capricorn  I figure I am pretty "sub tropically" located for pompom crab hunting at least in my area of CQ.
