Test tube holder

Thought I'd share this around. For a long time I've dropped test tubes and dried them awkwardly. I stumbled across this "plate holder" in IKEA and straight away knew what to use it for!

Only $2.99!

What would make it better, is if it could hold the test tube the other way too.

Like when you are testing ammonia, and need to leave it for 5 minutes, the rack can hold the test tube.

I wonder if you can pull out one row of dowels, and fit the test tube into those holes.

If not re-drill the holes slightly bigger to fit the tubes.

I didn't even think of that!

I just checked and I think you could get one row out it would just take a bit of DIY because they're glued in.

It would be awesome!

Cool !

A New Years project for you. Post up the finish product.

If it's glued in, you can cut it off with a saw and just re-drill the hole.

ZOMG I wish I'd seen this post a couple of years ago!

Here's my home-made test kit holder.  Made from pizza boxes (still smells slightly of cheese), dowling and an odd off-cut of wood I had laying around in the shed.  Oh, plus some electrical tape for 'waterproofing' :)

Took me AGES (despite the finished product hardly looking professional!), that plate holder would've been a much better start!

Just found this...

I beg to differ Jo, I think it looks superb.  The neat freak in me is in awe.

I finally got around to working on this little project.

The design changed a few times in my head and didn't turn out the way I wanted exactly but I think it'll do the job for now with possible enhancements in the future ?

Stay tuned for the finished product...

Very nice@NoGi! What type of wood?

Agreed. It's kind of relaxing to me. That might sound weird haha but it feels good to see the final product from just an idea in your head hey!

Some progress shots...
