Moss Wall

Im thinking about doing a moss wall, but im not sure how..

has anyone done anything like this?

i was going to get some plastic mesh, but couldnt find any, and wanted it to be firm and not bend out of shape..

im thinking of black egg crate now, not sure if the moss will hold onto it easy though...

I have some white plastic mesh if you want. What size do you need? I'll need some of it in the 6ft, but you can have the rest. I'll have to check my stock.
The best way to do it is to lay your moss on a mesh sheet, put another sheet on top, sew them together with fishing line and let it float for a light while under 12-12hrs lighting.

I tried this out and what i did was get some SS mesh from the LFS. I tied a couple of suction cups onto it and then just tied moss to it. Stuck on the side of the aquarium and it was fine.

what type of mesh is it? can you post a picture?

hard to find big pieces of SS mesh

 

i did find some plastic mesh at spotlight, it was abit thinner than i was expecting, but if i tie 2 together it may be better

I found some mesh at spotlight too, but when I put it in water it got flimsy and started degrading. it was the only one I found locally. I have a few sheets of A4 sized plastic mesh, like the weir in this pic. I'll dig them up today and see how much I've actually got. I'll need two sheets for my 6ft, you're welcome to the rest of it.

 

Edit: found them, they're actually 26.7x34.3 cm. I have 10, so you can have 8 if you want.

Do a search online for 'moss graffiti', you can use it on aquarium moss, paint it onto the mesh and grow it emmersed for a few weeks then put it in the tank. It will give you the best chance at getting good coverage and attachment to the mesh imo. I've only ever done it on wood but I'm sure it would be the same on a fine mesh.

there's a recent ScapeFu podcast episode on it that has a good recipe and method in it.

oh if there the same as spotlight then it doesnt matter, i can just pick some up for couple of bucks, but if it is flimsy and started degrading thats not good...

oh wow, so you can just use any tank moss and it will be fine?

you said you applyed it to wood, did it stick fine? is it hard to get off?

Dont use moss like java/pearl etc, ive used weeping/xmas/peacock with great success. I have attached a photo of my moss wall, it is abit messy atm everything needs a trim but you get the idea.

That is the same as I was offering, the one I found and degraded was thinner, felt like plastic but was probably nylon or something... That one is a good one.

why not use pearl moss? that the moss i got :P

im thinking about trying to blend some, and paint it on, i saw this new small tank at cash converters a all in one, i know all in ones arnt the best but i may just have to get it, it looked sweet lol...

Using two plastic mesh, and lay the moss in between and zip tie them together. Zip tie suction cups on to hold on the back or cut the mesh exactly the size of the back of the tank that way it will stand at the back

I've done it with Peacock and US Fissiden and both worked really well.

It sticks well as it actually grows on the object you paint it on. easy to remove if you want, just run a small razor blade over the area like you would to remove any moss.

Pearl grows upwards, just not as nice imo
