I rescently got my first few Shrimp ever. I put them in a new tank with two Common Bristlenose Catfish. I have three Nija/Chameleon Shrimp and four Red Cherry Shrimp. And I was wondering what fish would be the best type of fish to keep with them. I want I nice school of fish to swim around in my tank, but I also want them to be friendly enough not to have a go at the Shrimp. Although I know all fish will want to or try to eat the shrimp, I would just like a fish that schools, remains ralitivly small and has a low chance of going for my shrimp. Also, I was wondering what the shrimp eat, and how often I should feed them. I have read a lot on this but it all varies. I have given them spinach that has been put in hot water for one minute then cooled under some cold water, but the don't seem to be touching it. And once I do find the right food, should I feed them once ever two day, or once every week. The other thing is, will the eat the algi pellets that I feed to the Bristlenose Catfish? So my new project: Breeding some chameleon shrimp in order to get some first hand experience before I write another "Ultimate Guide to...." Also another great excuse to get another tank in the house, and to buy a new tank! Bonus. So this tank is not a biotope as such as I really want to set up a hard scape tank and utilise some interesting pieces that I've had lying around. In particular I plan on including some Melanoides sp. snails. But more on that later. So first up, the tank. After using an Aquamanta Xanti 40 for a setup in the past http://shrimpkeepersforum.com/forum/index.php/topic/5827-aquarium-xanti-40-by-aquamanta/ and it would have been my first choice, but there wasn't enough space. So I went with the Xanti 40's smaller size, the Xanti 26. Luckily I had some store credit and got an extra discount for reasons you'll see below, but the Xanti 26 usually costs around $120. So why was the tank discounted.... Somebody screwed up. Thats right, the base is completely misaligned. Luckily it was an easy fix as the base it held on by what is essentially double sided tape. Then like the 40, remove the garish stickers. Test the LED, and its ready to go.

Hi all, just looking into to doing an all Chameleon Shrimp only tank set up, I have a 27l tank which I had planned to do but decided against it, so now looking to perhaps do the same tank but with no plant life, except mosses, driftwood, just after some information for a I guess you could call a Chameleon Biotope tank. Substrate? Flora? Water Parameters? The tank will be some time off from being started as I want to look into everything first. Mosses I have in mind are Native Weeping Moss, mini Pellia, any others I could perhaps consider? Driftwood will be a piece of Gold Vine. Thoughts?

So as some of you know I have a thing for Chameleon Shrimp, so when I decided to re-do my tank and add only Chameleon Shrimp with no other Shrimp and some Threadfin Rainbows, I thought they would all be fine seeing the Threadfin Rainbows have such a small mouth and throat. So today I decided to have a little scope around the tank to see if I could find any Chameleon and have to say I'm pretty disappointed, so far have only found 3 adults, out of a possible 40+. I'm gathering the Threads have taken to the Chams, sadly. So what now? Do I just leave the tank with what Chams are left in there amongst the Threads? Or, should I look to do a small Cham only tank? Really not too sure, wanted to just focus on 1 tank, but now... not too sure, I do really like the idea of a Cham only tank. Could it be unheated? Seeing it's indoors? Does it need to be filtered? Seeing it's a Cham only tank? Should I go for a small planted Betta tank? Or a small planted Nano tank? Or, could I perhaps do a planted plastic/glass vase or bowl? Ideas are there, the Chams aren't though, a bit disappointing really.

I wanted to use a very few number of plants, I didn't want this and that all thrown into the tank as what I have in the past, so decided to go with Native Vallisneria, Corkscrew Vallisneria, Blyxa Japonica, Anubias nana, Bolbitis heudelotii, Windelov Java Fern, Trident Java Fern, Narrow Leaf Java Fern and Subwassertang, I wanted most of the vegetation planted to the right of the tank so that the current from the filter outflow would push the Vallisneria towards the left side of the tank, I was happy with the right side being built up and planted, although the left side was quite bare, so as suggested from a fellow SKF member (Callan), I slightly built up the substrate on the left and planted to help hide the filter intake. I took my time in regards to rescaping this tank, for a change, I'm usually rushed and in a hurry to get it all sorted and took my time filling the tank up with tap water, having taken just over half an hour to fill as I didn't want the flow too strong and disturb the planted vegetation, once the tank was full and Aqua One Water Conditioner was added, I also added 4 pebbles to create a some what native under water look but wasn't happy with them, so out they went. I'm actually more than happy with the end result, I will how ever look to purchase some more pieces of Blyxa Japonica and Vallisneria. All feedback, comments, hints, tips are welcome. Thank You.
