If u do decide to get a new tank go bigger. The larger the tank the more stable ur water perimeters will be. In terms of filtration why not use both canister and sponge filters there is nothing wrong with extra filtration. I have a 4ft tank which i run run a 2000ltr eheim pump through an aquis 1250 canister then into an aquis 800 canister like a sump kinda then i have 2 dual biosponge filters running as well. I would normally run 3 tho.

2ofus is right with the stem plants and avoiding putting hands in tank thats why i got anubias plants

I'm tempted to get one of those "bookshelf" tanks or the "shallow" ones. I'm not a fan of normal 3ft and 4ft tanks.

Sounds like the Mr Aqua 3ft bookshelf tank.

Yep. The Mr Aqua is taller than the ADA 60F. I think I like the deepness of the ADA. Maybe it's my scaping brain kicking in again though. Back to shrimp...back to shrimp!!

What about mounting the tv on the wall?

Good idea. I'll have to think about this over the weekend.

What do you all run for lighting on your shrimp tanks, basic led or known brands?

Up Aqua I ran U and Z version. There are lots of options out there, including building your end via a non sponsors website.

Which one do you like better? I have the Z but from what I've seen the U is a bit more purpely and for plants whereas the Z is bright white...?

Well is this next tank for plants? Or shrimps?

The shrimps will look better with a whiter light.

But if you go with a shallow bookshelf tank, you can get away with a cheaper, not so expensive unit.

Roger that!

Got some decisions to make!

Got the tank...here comes multiple tank syndrome. Ended up getting the same tank size because of limited space.

I didn't have enough left over BEP for a decent substrate layer so I'll have to pick up some more from somewhere. I may go with ADA Amazonia to see what it's like. Says it's meant to buffer to between 5.5-6.5 which seems good for CRS. The BEP only comes in 9L which would be way too much for this tank and I'd be left over with a lot of soil.

Might also go a Flexi mini this time. Gets good reviews.

Also got a double sponge filter and AquaEl 50W heater.

One question, I was tempted to get a small amount of lava rock but was really hesitant because of the stability issues I had in my original tank with rock. What's everyone's thoughts on it? I thought it would be a good idea to get some rock which is inert for some good biofilm.

awesome :-)

can't wait to see what u do. i rly dig your last setup with the foreground carpet and tall stems (rotalia?) along the back.

+1 re lava rock. id love to get the low down.. i bought some black lava rock from an LFS which assured me (as they always will) that it was totally inert. i smashed it up into small pieces to provide more grazing surface but when i tested it continually increased tds.. no matter how much i rinsed and washed it..

ps i love the aquael unbreakable heaters- they look so good and discreet! i had one die on me just last week but I've been using 6 of them for an average of 3-4 months each so i can't read too much into it i guess?

anyhow il be following your progress intently :-) good luck!

love n peace

will

Yeah rotala at the back. Got some AR mini from @GotCrabs (thanks dude) which will go as a midground. Updates to come soon :)

Yeah thought I'd try a different heater this time and the AquaEl looked nice and discreet like you said. And no glass which is a plus!
