"Bloody Mary" tank

Nogi showing off his Bloody Marys reminded me that I need to update this thread. I've since moved the colony to a larger tank (now roughly 35L instead of 27L). I'm concentrating on getting (1) fully coloured legs and (2) solid overall colour coverage.

You'll notice the oldest ladies below with the back stripes have less coverage on their legs than the smaller females, so it seems like I'm getting somewhere.

This is my main male. Bred him myself. Notice he even has good colour coverage on his pleopods. Not as good colour as the females, but definitely better than what I started out with.

Finally, a little salute to all lovers of "Bloody Mary" cherries!

Hmmm...thats the first and only light grey NZ Iron Sand ive ever seem!! Never seen dark grey either. Mines as dark as black neo!!

Try this - get a magnet. An old filter impeller has a good strong magnet on it and just touch the magnet to the sand lightly.... done this? Good.

Now if your magnet is now furry with sand all over it like hair after you put a fork in the power socket-you have iron sand. If it hardly sticks at all or doesnt-then its likely diamond sand .

I bought it as Pisces NZ Iron sand from Techden so I never doubted it was the real thing. Nevertheless I tried the magnet and I can confirm the sand stuck to the magnet so well I couldn't remove it all.

Update:

My focus on increasing the amount of colour on the legs of my Bloody Mary colony is paying off - slowly.

I've heard that bloody mary shrimp have red colored flesh, but had never seen any photos of that. For that matter, I've also never seen red pleopods! Great shots!

I only have cherries right now, but would love to get some bloody mary shrimp eventually!

I got 50 Bloody Mary Shrimp this morning, all settling into the 45l well so far, sat them in the tank in their bags for about 20 minutes then let them gradually way their own way into the tank afterwards, so far so good, a slight pinkish/redish colour at the moment, so hoping they'll darken up quite a lot, popped a piece of Boss Aquaria Shrimp Crack in and they loved it, going good so far.

What is in the shrimp crack food?

Mainly Crack Cocaine and Moulted Shrimp.

On a serious note, vitamins, calcium, minerals, potassium, magnesium, send them nuts at times.

In my experience, my shrimp only "go nuts" for Shrimp Crack if they've been underfed a few days.  It's probably about middle to low on their scale of favorite foods.

Boss Aquaria - bossaquaria.com.au,

Age of Aquariums - aquariumproducts.com.au,

Newbreed Aquatics - newbreedaquatics.com.au and

Aquakitz - Aquakitz.com

they all sell it.

I thought Tech Den sold it as well, but I couldn't find it on their web site. Maybe they sold out of them.
