Shrimp MANIA!!!

How is your new tank going @Astro? :)

It's looking good thanks raukem. The Plants are beggining to respond well to the Co2 injection, HC is starting to carpet the tank. Last week I introduced 3 tiny Rilli shrimplets to see how they go in the tank without having to worry about the plants being disturbed.

I thought if the babies are the most sensitive to WP then it will be a good sign if they live. It's really hard to spot them in the tank but all three are alive and well, I think they have doubled in size im a week.

Rilli tank is looking crazy. Shrimplets everywhere and many berried females. Oebt's are both still alive and seem to be really happy.

Ive orderd my TDS pen and test kits, looking forward to testing the water. Doing my research on RO units at the moment as I'd really like to get some more tigers and then hopefully some blue bolts once I'm more experienced.

I think it's best to see how I go with these tanks over summer to see if the house keeps the temp stable before I dive into collecting the more fragile species. Otherwise I will have to re-think my setup and perhaps start saving for one like Diciples.

I will post some more pics next weekend when hopefully the plants have grown a bit more.

Looking great Astro!!!

HC works a lot better with CO2 aye. My HC still looks green but has not grown much as I do not want to use CO2 in my Taiwan bee tank. So I have Monte Carlo as a carpet plant back up in case the HC dies out.

Yep, I think you already have 2 tigers if they are doing well, it'd better to get some more.

I'm excited to hear that you're gonna keep BB :)

I'm thinking to run my air-con during Summer as I have 2 cube tanks, soon will have another tank :D

Thanks raukem ?

my my HC was looking really great for a couple of weeks without the CO2 then it started melting fast. Got the Co2 just in time to save it I think.

Your getting a third tank? Awesome! Another cube?

Hi fellow shrimpers!

An update on how my new tank and shrimp are going.

Have been a bit disappointed with this tank to be honest. I've found working with a smaller tank a little more challenging, and the current setup isn't as refined as I would like it to be for its place in the home. However! After looking back at the pics I'm really happy with how it's progressing and its assisting me to decide on the tank dimensions and equipment that work for me and my expectations.

Ive started to cull my Rilli tank :5565bf0371061_D: I'm keeping all the shrimp with the Rilli blue gene in and fishing out all the red cherry looking shrimp into a breeding net. I plan to move the culls into the new setup tomorrow which will make this tank a little more exciting for me.

Introducing shrimp earlier than I thought I would, namely because I'm impatient and Ive already got my eyes on a new tank lol.

Will continue to keep this tank going until I'm ready to make another financial leap into shrimp infinity and beyond.

Thinking to transfer the plants and most of the equipment to the proposed new tank and move the soon to be shrimp inhabitants (culls) into the big tank once the plants have matured a bit more. Offering them ample protection from the discus and benificial additions as a cleanup crew.

I've orderd an RO system "yaaaaay! :excited:" it's for my drinking water as the first priority but the shrimp will also get the benefit of having the unit.

So if I continue on my current trajectory, perhaps Ill be keeping more than just Rilli culls and the culls of those culls. Maybe I'll have some shrimp to auction at the next SKF live auctions.

Thanks again to the forum members for all of the advice and encouragement over the past few weeks, it's been a great way to fast track myself into the hobby ?

The last two pics are of my favourite two shrimps. I know they are not perfect Rillis but I'm always excited to spot them. (Top left and left)

Unsure what the hell this shrimp is but it behaves different to all the others, as though it's living in a world of delayed reactions. Is it a    Retarded Rilli (for lack of a better term) or a differant species. Has prominant white stripe on its back

my first thought was a chameleon shrimp (Caridina sp. WA4) but it could also be a chocolate cherry variant.

I am missing a Berried Pinto. I hope I didn't give that to someone by accident.

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Hi Guys,  Does anyone know where to buy PRL shrimps in WA, not the CRS please. Thanks Regards

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
