Thank you. Hopefully I get time to update this thread once I have moved this rack to a new location in the house.

Build a new rack... or modify the current one. 😊

I was looking through my mobile for photos to post and realise I have a lot of baby photos. Haha. New daddy syndrome? In my defence, I have many photos of my discus babies too. Apologies... these photos don't do them justice as they are just mobile phone snaps.

Some PRL culls from @Gbang.

CRS from the G dude... always my all time favourite.

Some of my discus babies... working on this heckel cross pair. Over the last 20+ years keeping fish, nothing beats the sight of a pair of discus with fry attached.

Those are some healthy discus, I used to breed them about 18 years ago, I had ultra high body and high fin, but those a really rare these days if you are after some good quality ones.

Thank you. Yeah they are great quality discus of German lineage. Due to family and young kids, I was not able to devote my time to them as much as I would like to so I have since sold them back to the person who sold them to me in the first place. He has been a discus breeder for many years so I know he will look after them well and keep their progeny going within Australia.

Thank you. This rack is still running but I am planning to strip it all down, move it to the garage and set it all up again.

  • 1 year later...

Been a while since I posted in here.

Currently running 3 racks but getting a bit too much with family/kids/work commitments.

Finally decided to shut down this rack so it is now for sale if anyone is keen. I am in Brisbane.

Send me a PM if you would like to view it.

Also have heaps of other stuff for sale e.g. Biospon filters, Eheim 2213 and 2215, a few Hailea HC-250A chillers, etc. See my sale post here:

Cheers,

JC

This rack has been sold and picked up.

I am very keen to see how this rack looks like once it is set up again.

Hopefully the new owner will update and continue this thread.

What a journey.  Hope the downsize gives you more headspace to enjoy more the tanks you're keeping jc.

I recently put in an order for 12 blue dream and 12 cherry shrimp. The shipping was delayed, Harrisburg PA distribution is terrible. Took over 9 days for them to arrive. 0 DOA. Nice! Anyway I've had them now for I'd say 2 weeks. One already is pregnant! And I recently found a guest staying. I have copepods all over, I heard they are fine. I'm not sure what this is. Looks to have antennas, like a snail or something.

      Hello everyone!
My area of Michigan (48065) seems to be a black hole for shrimp enthusiasts, and my hope was to uncover folks I can buy shrimp (and hopefully moss) from locally. Since the pandemic has paused all face-to-face meetings for local clubs until further notice, it's been rough (and I can't imagine paying online retail ridiculous prices for shipped shrimp)!
Since we only have the "City" field (for location) on profiles, is there a better way to find local people? I'd love any help you can offer.

ADA amazonia II (with extras) 9L
ADA cube garden mat 8mm   900x450 ( will have to trim it)
      Seachem flourishm liquid fertiliser

Okay, so the title pretty much says it all... One of my berried tts just moulted, and she left the eggs in the moult. What happened, and why?
I'm going to try to save the eggs with some sort of extraction, and I'll be very careful. She was pretty far along. I think I'll use the net over bubbler method. Does anyone have experience with this, and particularly the extraction? I won't do anything until I have some idea to go off.
      Thanks in advance.
      Crabby
Oh and the moult is under like 2 hours old. Wasn't there when I started watching a movie, was there when I checked back after.
      Going off this video:
Hoping the process will be similar.

      Hey folks!
So I got myself a little 5 gallon (20L) recently (it was free!) to use for quarantine. I’m going to use it to qt some cory cats and maybe some tetras or gouramis for my community tank. The thing is, I’ve got it set up really nicely in my room and I want to have it actually stocked. I definitely don’t want a betta, but I found some super cute guppies on gumtree (Wild Thai Orchid) that I can never find locally. How many guppies do u think I could get in the tank?? The seller only has 4 pairs, so is selling in pairs but not trios, so that could have an affect on the amount. I also plan on adding shrimp, either of a neo or caridina variety, or native - like dae or chameleons.
So my questions are: how many guppies could go in the tank (assuming they breed and I keep the babies in with them for about a month each time), could I fit in anything else (with a pair or 4), like a couple of chilli rasboras or rocket killies, and will the shrimps be enough for a cleanup crew, or should I add an Otto or something?
      Cheers!

Thanks Simon I don’t think I will have any issues giving them away I just thought I would offer them here first. I’m a member of quite a few Facebook pages - there is a SA one as well- I can offer them on those pages too . Biggest problem is the people who come and get them and then sell off again. I really want to be able to stress they are culls from culls . If I can’t find homes for them I might just buy another bath and put them outside LOL  I’m quite surprised my Tangerine hybrids breed outside too. We get very cold winters and extremely hot summers here. I guess the large surface area allows the water to cool down.

Those are lovelly pretty shrimp, you are very lucky to be able to keep some outside! It was interesting that you do the same regime of RO water + gh+ outside in the pond. You can try posting in the 'for sale' section of this site, https://skfaquatics.com/forum/forums/forum/148-selling-forum-livestock/ and/or try gumtree (below link) may be worth a try, https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-pet-products/cherry+shrimp/k0c18438?view=gallery I haven't used it myself, but they don't do post so is only for pick up I believe? I think it is free as well so worth a try???  Simon

You are of course right that the tank should bed started afresh and if none of this batch survive I won't try any more until I can do a fresh start! I do have the substrate ready to do this but now isn't the time to do it, though I wonder whether it ever will be......... I am pleased to hear you are getting babies, even if they are lower grade, you are heading in the right direction. Blue bolts are  probably my favourites of the taiwan bees. Simon

What a lovely bunch. And good on ya for having a generous heart.

Hello again,  Just stopped by to wish you good luck, but if not, may as well break down the tank and start over completely. I hope someday I can have a mixed tank as nice as yours.  So far, most of my shrimp babies have been low grade blue bolts.
