Could a male be sterile?

I have 8 yellow Neon females, and unfortunately, only 1 male. This is the 2nd time now that all the female were berried, but I can't see any shrimplet yet...:huh-:

I thought that, as long a female is berried, that means she has been fertilized by the male?

So is it possible to have all females berried, even with a sterile male?

Berried or saddled? If they are berried it means the eggs have been fertilised, the will saddle and then shed shell if unfertilised.

Yes, berried. They kept the egss for about 3 weeks, more or less, and now have no more. Yes, I was guessing that if they carry the eggs, that means they have been fertilized. This why I really wonder where are these shrimplets???

They all show nice saddles again though, so I'm pretty sure i will see them ith nice eggs soon, for the 3rd time, but no shrimplets to see yet.

That being said, there are a LOT of place where to hidde in that tank. May be if there are shrimplets, they just hidding? Though, in the other tanks (red, blue pearls, sunkist....) I can see the shrimplets very soon grazing on the bio film on the glass of the tank...

Perhaps there is an issue causing low/no survival of the shrimplets? something with your water might be off?

My water parameters are as follows:
TDS: 102
PH: 6.4
GH: 6°d
KH: 4°d
No2 & NO3 : 0

In the other tanks, the parameters are about the same, except TDS moving from 96 to 125, and the reds, blue pearls & sunkist breed like rabbits

Are you keeping anything else in these tanks besides shrimp? and with your water changes are you putting in similar water parameters and water temperature when doing the change?

No nothing else, only shrimp tanks. Water changes are always performed with my tap water + seachem prime, and I change water only every 3 weeks,, even though water parameters are very stable and would not need a change.

I have fungus on the driftwood which is in this tank, should it be disturbing something in the tank?

The reason I asked about the water temperature during the water changes is that I lost a lot of shrimplets because there was a significant difference in water temps.

How long have you had the yellows? Have you matched the water parameters from where you purchased the shrimp? If not, they may take awhile to start breeding as they need to acclimate to the conditions in your tank. Its not unusual to have them breed When first purchased due to changes in water chemistry that trigger moults, then if the water chemistry remains different to where they came from then they need time to acclimate. 

If you are concerned about the possibility of having a sterile male (which seems unlikely) it may be worth getting another male or two just for your own peace of mind. 

What substrate are you using? Your pH is quite low considering your GH/KH values.

Yup, I understand that. In fact my last water change was a week ago. I did a 10% water change. I didn't remark a noticeable swing between the tank temp and the new water.

How long have you had the yellows? Have you matched the water parameters from where you purchased the shrimp? I have them since the end of March. they were transfered to a new tank a month ago. I have received them at the same time than the blue pearls and Sunkist. Here is what I got from them:

Blue Pearls : 4 males + 6 females : already sold a hundred of F1
Sunkist : 6 males 1 female : 32 F1 1st + about 10 F1 2nd time, female passed away then... First F1 females are now showing nice saddles and should be ready to go soon
Yellow : 7 females, 1 male : all berried 2 times, yet to see a single shrimplet

I also notice the yellow female are fading, except 1 which now shows a nice "racing stripe" on the back... Odd Neo..

      It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

      I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding?       Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

      You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
