30x17x20cm nano tank lighting

Hi all!

I've read somewhere about WPG and some others not agreeing with it.

I currently have a new 30x17x20cm nano tank being cycled, with HC and christmass moss on driftwood.

I'm currently using a JEBO JB13 13 watts clamp-on lamp for it, but I'm currently seeing browning christmas mosses.. Not sure if the light's too much for the moss. Though I heard that HC needs high light.

Is this enough, or is it too much? I do have a spare JEBO JB09 9 watts lamp from my other nano if the light's too much.

By the way, I'm not realy into JEBO, just that they're the only available small lamps in my LFS lol..

Any help would be appreciated!

Is the nano tank 10L?

If it is, then 13 watts from that JEBO13 power Compact flouro light is not too high. I'd consider it medium light.

Not sure why your moss is browning. It's certainly not too much light.

Are you sure it's not algae (diatoms) growing on the moss?

Are you dosing with glutaraldehyde ( like Dino spit or Flourish)? This can cause some moss to brown (die).

Alternatively has the moss been grown emersed? Sometimes mosses will brown and die back after being submersed before they begin shooting their submerse leaves.

Also check on temperature. High temps can cause the moss to die.

oh, cool.. i was thinking it was overheating the tank..

I'm not really sure if it's diatoms though, but they really look dead looking.. I've added a pic for you guys to see.

I haven't even started dosing excel.. not sure if it affects it, but i planted my wood with the moss after 5 days of cycling the water

Yup, I bought them from the LFS fully emersed.

I do have the simple thermometer, but it's usually just around 26-28 degrees

26-28*C is starting to get a bit hot for most mosses. Below 25 is better. Xmas is supposed to be a bit more heat tolerant than most species though. 

Something else to consider too - kind of related - not all thermometers are accurate. I have two that read +2 above and -2 below the actual temperature respectively (as compared with a scientific thermometer from work). 26-28 could actually be a bit higher.
