Ziss EZ Breeding Box BL-2 :thumbsu:

http://shrimpkeepersforum.com/forum/index.php/topic/8879-new-arrivalsziss-ez-breeding-box/

Initial thoughts: well packaged and easy to put together except for the clip, I found it really hard to get it to attach to the breeding box, I do like that it’s an adjustable clip but so you can adjust it to suit your tanks water level.

1 week on. The inhabitants seem happy and healthy, I tried the suction cups and as I suspected they failed with in 24hours and released the shrimp I'd spent time selecting  .  Then I had to do battle with the clip so I could hang it from the side of the tank. The clip is definitely more secure, but it’s a pain in the bum to attach the clip to the box. There is a little adjustable bar at the bottom to level the box out depending on if your using the suction cups or the clip. It’s not very ridged making it too easy to move and even the slightest bump, like when taking the lid off, can push the bar in. To adjust the bar back out, the hole box needs to come out or you need to put your hand in the tank.

Things I like:

  • It has a lid
  • It has an air stone on the back that pumps water in to the box to get water circulating, and a valve to control the airflow allows you to adjust the water turn over.
  • The mesh sides seem to provide good flow to help keep the w.p consistent with the rest of the tank.
  • expandable, with the addition of an expantion ring you can add another box on for more area.

I’ve also got one of the meta cubs to test now too so I’ll do a comparison review soon   :sword:

@buck has your opinion changed on these? Just wondering how its going after some time?

i took them out and havnt used them to be honest, i might give them a go in the new rack but they are too big for my little rack. They got in the way to much, but i'd still go the ziss over the metta cube.

I just tried one and seems really good. Feels like heaps of space for the shrimp i already caught.

Bought a metacube over ziss. Overall quite happy with it. Using clip provide, as suction has always failed me. No lid or airstone, i ordered extra mesh and still cheaper than the ziss.

While I do not own a Ziss, I prefer the metacube due to the clip as well. I don't trust suction cups. I did an easy retrofit to my metacubes to work like a Ziss using only 13mm irrigation pipes and elbows and cable ties.

So far my Ziss is still holding on using the suction cups. From my last post, that makes it just over a month with out falling.

Yeah i wasnt too bothered not having the airstone, tbh i think with the sides and bottom its getting enough flow..

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Hi Guys,  Does anyone know where to buy PRL shrimps in WA, not the CRS please. Thanks Regards

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
