swimming everywhere crazily

what possible reasons are there for neos cruising around everywhere like the clappers??

its in a room with a bunch of other tanks.. been doing a lot of minor WCs around (to no particular schedule.. just intermittently tank to tank every couple days.. not sure why this tank should be different? theres no ammonia or niteite poisoning...

probably a red herring - but I did move across a shrimp from another tank last night. cant imagine that would be relevant?

anyway I really hope im wrong - but I thought this only happened when they are trying to escape poisons? (ie ammonia or nitrite?) ive checked and there are none of those.

It is not chasing female behaviour because it seema every single rili in the tank is doing it - even shrimplets.

can someone please tell me it could just be a bit of stress perhaps from overdoing the recent WC? or ?

love n peace

will

If you're sure it's not as a result of a freshly moulted lady shrimp then it stand to reason it is a change in water conditions! Was the newly added water vastly different in temperature?

The newly added shrimp could have moulted as a result of new environment! Sure there's no new berries??

Sounds like fresh moults to me too. Water changes can often bring on moults, which may be why it looks like the behaviour and the water changes are linked.

hey thanks for help you two!

ive been looking for any berries but it is hard to find everyone.. hmm I do hope you're both right. I had thought only mature males go bonkers when theres a female moult?

ah I didn't mention yes the new water was prettt close in temp and tds.

the only significant difference would have been the increased sulphate content plus the lack of nitrates..

Check your ph . I once had a similar experience where even the females went crazy and had done a water change - before my RO days - and did a full water test found the ph had gone up in my tap water . It was usually 7.0 but that day the tap water was up to 8.5 no idea why it went up .

hey ineke thanks for the suggestion. ive tested pH already. its a touch higher than when I last checked.. nearly 7.8 and a week or 2 ago it was 7.6 .. it could be that I made a booboo with the amount of bicarb soda I added to my change water.. I have a little of that left so il check it out incasw that was the culprit tnx!

hm nope change water pH is also just below 7.8 .. looks like I hace been adding a touch more KH then I intended but 1 or 2 points difference shouldn't matter should it?

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
