mixing shrimps together in hope of new shrimp?

hello imma try to mix orange rili or yellow rili with blue dreams?

do you think the outcome will be blue body orange or yellow rili?

 

im doing this project because i saw carbon rili have blue body and i believe someone mix them.

 

any ideas? thank you.

Sometimes you may get something interesting but generally when you put different colour cherries together you end up with washed out colours and wild type - clear bodies with stripes. You could end up losing the good colours you started with. On the other hand you could try 1 cross and see what you get just be prepared that you may get low grade culls that you can't sell on . Sometimes you can line breed them to see if you get a better pattern but on the whole it's best not to.

But from my understanding carbon rili can have blue body and majority of the offspring are the same blue body carbon rili.

I thought orange and yellow rili can do the same.

ActuallyI seen a red rili with blue body before.

Any thoughts? anyone done this before?

It's done by selective breeding not crosbreeding. Every rilli has the potential to throw blue body shrimp it's just a matter of selecting the ones with faint blue bodies and linebreeding them to make the blue brighter.

By crosbreeding you will get wild type or cull grade shrimp as ineke mentioned.

The red rili with the blue body is in fact a RED Rili blue Gene or Blue Gene Red Rili and you can get nice Blue Shrimp from them. Selective breeding is the way to go. Pick what you like in the parents and cull really hard so anything that doesn't show a hint of what you want doesn't get used then you might get something closer to what you are looking for - however some colours people want don't necessarily show up and then you also get recessive and dominent gene colours. It can take years to get a line up that will give you what you want and breed true good luck

Oh don't give up.. The great thing about shrimp is the short breeding cycle so give it a try. Have something in mind and aim for it. If you have adults and the breeding cycle is less than 30 days then within 6 months you will have an idea if it's working. At worst you will have a tank of culls that can go outside or be given away or culled however you want. You might end up with rubbish but you might end up with something new. New varieties are turning up all the time because someone found a slightly different looking shrimp and went for it. Getting them to breed true is the hard part but you can do it. That female in the first picture took me 8 months of breeding to get, she is really good with lovely colour on head and tail plus a clear light blue mid section - no stripes anywhere just like a true Rili should be. Her parents were not as good as her nor were a lot of her siblings but she is almost perfect. It takes time with any variety to get what you want but it's fun along the way and you learn lots. If it was easy to get perfect shrimp straight away then there's no challenge and it becomes less fun. Give it a go good luck :)

Definitely don't give up, we need more people selectively breeding for these variants to show they are possible from any line.

Unfortunately she was lost last year when I had my shrimp room disaster. I had some beautiful shrimp- now I'm sorry I didn't sell some so the genes were still available! Pays me for being a shrimp hoarder!

I only have a couple of culls left so I won't be pursuing that line again. I had a few as good as her but I've lost heart since then. I have a tank of blacks and a few blues but my cherries are mainly a thing of the past. It took a lot of culling of 100's of shrimp , it was great to see the quality coming through but heartbreaking when I lost them. My main effort now lies with fancy tibees especially the red line I have started.
