Oh what beauties.! I've just started out with my first 2 pairs of crown tail plakat and half moon plakats. I never realised the other species of Bettas were so beautiful. Those Chanoids and Simplex are awesome.

Nice simplex shots mate! Love the tank setup with leaves over white sand, I used to have a few tanks like that. Hoping for a mouthful from my channoides soon, just got mine recently but bred some years ago.

Always had a soft spot for those Liquorice Gouramis, your looks like deissneri the same species we get here. Have you ever bred them? I've tried several times with absolutely no success...

I currently have around 100 of the liquorice gourami fry growing on at different stages.

Their location of collecting was unknown, were labelled as gunawani but certainly aren't. Best description i can give is parosphromenus of bintan group. Maybe dua?

I have 2week old channoides fry at the moment and 2 males holding. Also have simplex fry of various stages and 1 male holding. The simplex have great character.

Top work with the Liquorice! Thanks for the pictures. I obviously didn't try hard enough with these... got any tips?

I can imagine the simplex have great character, most Bettas do. I kept falx years ago and they were great little fish, easy to breed too.

They liked a white plastic tube(2cm diameter ) on the bottom of the tank. Temp 26-28degrees centigrade. Light flow in the tank. Ph 4.7-4.9. One pair is responsible for most of the fry while my second pair produced a few which leads me to think that many of these wild caught fish are affected by the pollution in their natural habitat. Either that or they were just rubbish at it!
