Who are our Melbourne members??

I'd be interested to know how does it work? Does the entrant supply everything?

Edit: after reading I see you supply tanks and that entries can be mailed.

If these things are going to be big in Australia I think people would have to travel interstate to show their shrimp.

Love to see someone from SKF enter. Or even just a member there to take pictures for the rest of us !

Tanks are provided, benibachi soil for crystal/tbs.

Black quartz gravel for tigers and cherries.

All tanks will be heated to 22-24 degrees, with a nano sponge filter in each tank.

Tanks will be set up this week with pre cycled soil, and we will accept mail in entries next week.

If you want to enter and have your entries returned that can be done also.

Also big thank you to the sponsors, most notably aquarium industries, Coburg aquarium and boronia aquarium.

Other businesses who have donated/helped us out significantly are subscape aquarium, bossaquaria, new breed aquatics, age of aquariums, aquagreen, tfh australia, lodo betta aquatics.

I think that's all.

If you want to support in any way email [email protected]

It's a shame I don't have anything competition worthy at the moment...... I'm definitely in next year!

Hopefully someone from here represents..... I'll pay your entry fee ;)

Show worthy doesn't need to be high end.

Basic shrimp, which are clean, would do better than most high end I feel

I am still undecided about which of my shrimp will be entered, but I will have to be in it!!

As James has said, entries can be mailed down, with the option of auctioning them off at the end of day. This saves on return posting them.

The main judging criteria for this first round is consistency of colours, even colouring, etc. We are trying to follow as closely to international standard rules.

The more entrants the better. We are open to all species. If you have natives, cherries, crystals or TB you wish to present, please let shrimp club victoria know.

I will be there in my SKF top, thankfully not speaking this time, I believe I am judging and just trying to be helpful.

I will attempt to gather images and have posted within the week following the event. (I know I have not been good at this!! Sorry)

If you can be in Melbourne on the weekend, please come along, meet fellow breeders.

I would be wrapt if an SKF member takes out first prize.

Don't worry Disciple & Inverted, there's Vic members who will be there to represent. I don't think I'm ready to compete this year either, but great to see you will Jamie.

Let's get to work trying to encourage some more competitors!

Everyone is so hard on themselves and their shrimp.

Even if not entered expecting to win, it's a great way to show off your projects.

Thanks Callan! James and Madeline have been a driving force, bringing David, Paul and Az's idea to life!!

There has been such good support from fellow shrimp keepers, Aquarium Society of Victoria and sponsors alike.

It is hard to believe this time next week the winners will have been announced. Can't wait to see who takes out the top spot!

There are still some tanks open for further entries. There is a Natives category for those not keeping TB, Crystals or Cherries!!

Entry forms and info at www.shrimpclubvictoria.com

Looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and some interstate travellers there!!

I will try really hard not to look at the amazing bettas on auction, I don't need yet another addiction!

C'mon guys, entries are still open!

Great prize money available.

Even if you only have crs/mischlings I'm sure they would be pretty good quality

I didn't realise that postal entries were accepted so I didn't read the entry requirements. I have some really nice CBS but probably a bit small for this year. Hopefully I can enter next year.

Those judges look a bit Suss to me look out Victoria!

Its gbangarang! You cant the similarity to my profile pic? Lol

Ah, so that's what you look like normally. Handsome fellows.

I couldn't recognise you since you shaved off that stringy moustache you had in your profile pic.

That pic is so cool, you'd better watermark it so no one plagiarises it for a Calvin Klein or "This is what alcohol will do to you" ads.

I normally say I will get pics, but have let the team down too many times!! We have some awesome people attending (especially our interstate SKF folk!) and I am sure we will gather some great shots from the day and over the weekend!!

It's all coming together nicely! I cant wait to see who takes out top prize for the first shrimp comp!!!

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Hi Guys,  Does anyone know where to buy PRL shrimps in WA, not the CRS please. Thanks Regards

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
