Guys these are not my best Red cherries by far, However, it is from this motley of poor colour and clearish shrimp that the Orange morph shrimp are appearing. Actually if you could see my cull shrimp you would be supprised at just how many tinges of colour are amongst them. from grey, brownish, purple, red ,blue,orange you name it it is possibly there.

My philosophy on these supposedly 2nd grade shrimp is that they hold the gene pool that hopefully will lead to bigger things. So everyone is precious to me. I know their colours are not solid and that there are some large clear areas on them. but the challenges are there and results are there to see. I will be concentrating on this orange morph now for a while and try and get the line stabelised. It's happening. I have included some pics of my culls, and nursery with mums.

One thing I have noticed is that some of the orange girls start to saddle up when still fairly small. I have not noticed this in my general cherry population, is this normal? SORRY FOR THE QUALITY PICS TAKEN ON MY PHONE

nice project! how many generations has it taken to get this far? or are you yet to get that far with them? would be sweet to crack out a purple line

Hi Farma, Mate these are mine, i figure that there is about six to eight generations of work, about 18 months to get this far. The Orange morph is what I am working on at the moment, with the other colours, blue /purple just brewing in the back ground.I think that the shrimp without thick colouring may be due to some of my stock reverting back to the wild variety, i am not sure as I can't find pics of them in the wild.I have been line breeding without adding new stock so my breeders are getting old . I have put some selected orange stock in with my yellows to help strengthen the gene pool.

The fish around here are to spoilt to worry about a couple of little cherries, I do toss the dead ones over but they seam to sink to the bottom out of site, their fate! who knows.

Nice to know you have spent the time and effort to selectively breed them from that source.

Not sure that's a good idea. I'd make sure the cherries are dead and dump it in the bin. Less chance for them to revive and become introduced into our waterways.

They don't like sea water very much, i have tried twice to introduce cherries into my brackish tank using the drip method but ended up with them dead.So i guess cherries and salt water don't mix.

Heh, I don't think Sprae knows that GC waterways are mainly salt water. We have bullsharks in there!
