Would be interested in knowing peoples proven methods for removing ramshorn snails in mass. Got heaps and they are annoying me but my snail traps catch more shrimp then they do snails.

I've got other snails but have been removing with a fish net and sticks of cucumber. Put the cucumber in, wait till covered with snails, remove, rinse and repeat.

I think i might try that, i tried creating my own snail trap with some SS mesh, some hose and a plug but somehow the shrimp still got inside lol

I just remove them by hand. I had a tank a month ago that was overrun with them, on the first day I removed over 50, next day over 50, etc and at the moment it's down to removing like 1 or 2 a day (because I don't see the others if they are there) may not remove them completely but they are basically never seen any more.

I recently treated a tank with No Planaria, and treated the tank for 5 days. An additional side effect of the No Planaria is that it killed all of my ramshorn snails in my tank. I have been removing them as they go belly up to reduce the risk of an ammonia spike.

I have a fish & shrimps tank that was overrun with these things.

One of the discus started showing sign of worms infection. I treated with some fluvermal solution, which is used for human/veterinary worm treatment. Fluvermal contains Flubendazole. The discuss passed away, but I can't tell wether I treated it too late or if infection was too advanced. The 3 other discus passed away too. This was a true nightmare as it seems the disease did come with a freshly introduced fish and spreading lightning fast...

Though, none of the native neocaridina in the tank was affected. And 4 days after, I remarked all Planorbis (Ramshorn?) were laying dead on the soil. I picked out the corpses, did water changes.

I have bought new discus and never see any more snails in that tank.

Recently, I saw baby snails in the 300 l tank I use as a plant nursery, dozen and dozen. Fluvermal treatment, and voila! no more. The few guppies inside are OK.

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
