Most Wanted Shrimp

It seems that there is a blue and red base in majority of the shrimp strains I have seen in wild caught imagery.

 

Why not get one blue cardinal to add to the mix and aim for a different colour variety, like has been bred out in neocaridina and caridina canotnensis??

 

That's a challenge worthy!

 

Yellow cardinal? Green cardinal?  Make the captive strains more appealing?

LOL!!! You need to find a matching pair, not as easy as we wanted. Not necessary they will breed. So far, my Cardinal never breed with Starry Night or Harlequin.

 

Currently, I put Blue Tiger and Taiwan Bee in my Sulawesi tank and see whether they will breed with Sulawesi shrimp. I will prefer they breed with the tiger because tiger is the lowest denominator of all Caridina sp. Cantonesis. In this way, their offspring will be able to breed with any softwater shrimp.

However, I can't make up my mind on what shrimp should I keep in this tank. Lucky for me, I am living in a country that I virtually able to obtain any type of shrimp in the world. Therefore, I am seeking opinion on what is the most wanted shrimp in your mind. (^_~)

Sperm/humpback whole does cross with Blue Whale. Hence, it may be possible. ;)

I had a pretty busy year start and after that went for holiday, and I forgot about updating everyone. (^_^")y

 

In the end, I decided on these shrimps:

 

 

 

They are in the tank for 1.5 months (from 10mm size grow till breeding age now). ^^

Mostly are 6 and a couple are 8. Those in the pictures are 6 spots.

 

Those two pictures are not very good. It is because I am too lazy to setup my flash, and I took them under low light with high ISO. (^_^")y

Shrimpy Daddy I wanted to ask you about Pintos.

 

I have been trying to look for information on Pintos using google for awhile and have been browsing through different thread in SKF. This post by JAYC has helped too http://shrimpkeepersforum.com/forum/index.php/topic/7637-tibee-taitibee-pinto-mischling-f1-f2-terms-explained/

 

As explained in the above post a Pinto is a colour variation and type of Taitibee.

 

When I think of pintos they are the shrimps you have just shown us, either a red or black head with a solid white tail. I know there are other types but can you or any other members please educate me on the features of a pinto? Thanks in advance.

You are right that Pinto is a cross-breed shrimp. I did the experiment before and you are able to find the blog posts here: http://www.shrimpydaddy.com/blogs/blog/tagged/tibee-shrimp.

 

Generally, Pinto are classified into 3 variants:

• Zebra
• Spotted Head
• Exotic (Such as skunk pattern and cloud)

For colouration, they come in either black or red base. 

 

Even though Pinto could be easily breed out either from scratch (like what I tried in the experiment before) or use them to cross-breed with Taiwan Bee, you may not get the stability of gene and the exact shape and/ or proportion.

 

If you compared the Taiwanese pinto (not those Pinto they bought from Germany and re-sell), they have longer body. Hard to describe, you will only understand it when you see the true German's pinto.

Yeah I spent a long time staring at the German Pintos in Aquarist Chamber when I was in Singapore. Yours look like the ones that were selling for $800 sg per piece.
