Transgender Endler?

I just discovered this female (?) in my red chili endler colony.....

Well, at least I think she is a female. Shape, size and anal fin all look very female to me.

Except she is coloured! The whole fish has a beautiful purple-ish iridescent shine and the back half is coloured light red.

The colour is much lighter than that of the other (male) endlers.

Is this really a female...?

Certainly looks like a female, but a very colourful one. 

You might get quality fry out of her.

OH NO not more tanks!!!! It looks like a female to me. When I was breeding Guppies I had a few really nicely coloured females with long tails- yes they were females because they had babies but you would have thought they were young males.

Wow that female is very colourful , but at the end of the day she simply had more testosterone in her blood when growing up.

As for breeding her , personally I would as I like her shape , I like her skinny caudal peduncle , to me that is an endearing endler trait as opposed to the thick show standard of a guppy. Well done and I think you are lucky to have her.

As we know , pattern inheritance in guppies is generally passed on through males this would be interesting to see if her traits pass through to the next gen.

Caudal penduncle?   I had to google that one. ...but I agree.

She is a very good looking little fish and the picture does not do her justice.

The colour is so much better than it shows in the pic.

 

Ok..I see I will have to breed her and I do need another tank.

Oh, hang on...I just realised ....I do HAVE another tank!!!!

Lol! When I was breeding guppies a lot more seriously than now, I use to select for thick caudal peduncle. Otherwise the fish can't carry the big tails.

 

Nice looking endler female Garnelchen.

 

It probably is showing more of the guppy in her.

Yeah, I once had a female platinum ivory halfmoon guppy that turned male very late compared to its siblings.

Turned out to be the nicest fish in my collection.

That really is one monster of a male guppy compared to the others and a very good looking fish. I just love that colour!

 

But does that mean my female could still change into a male?    She is about 3 month old now.

I don't know if endlers are capable of actually changing gender, per-se, but jeez, some of mine have seemed to be completely missing a penis for ages and then all of a sudden it's there, obvious as anything.
