Wild bettas

These are some of the Betta gunung raja I picked up the other weekend.

Nice betta. It's so fierce looking.

Gunung Raja (pronounced goo-nong ra-ja)  translated is "Mountain King".

I like the translation! I wouldn't mess with him!!

They are more like puppy dogs than fierce!! (actually, kinda fierce toward each other when pairing off!!)

Will be emailing ai tomorrow to confirm species names they currently have.

Also, May make a new thread with each complex and photos of each species from people on here.

I know it's a shrimp forum, but who doesn't love a good betta.

Newbreed, those "Mountain Kings" (thanks for the translation JayC!) have coloured up beautifully. I almost wish I'd taken some home too but I'm busy with my second crack at Betta simorum instead.

Lodo, thanks for that, perhaps ask them to fix their lists in future too! They're useless how they are now. I think you should post up the species complexes, it's good info. Your rubra and dennisyongii are magnificent, top of my list for groups I want to obtain. Please breed them up!

So many amazing species people don't know of.

I'll be asking people who we spoke to from ai at the show to change wild bettas to scientific names, which should help stores order them in knowing what they would be getting.

For species, feel me and maddie have owned roughly 40+ species now.

Some we had great success. Some just didn't seem to like us at all.

Really want a strong community of wild breeders like there is for shrimp.

If laws get changed, wilds will be lost forever in Australia.

Not sure how long his been holding but his still going.

We've never tried stripping, they swallow eggs/fry when freaked out so no worth the risk.

Betta dennisyongi seem to be getting very fat so hopefully they get lucky soon.

Betta raja are getting really feisty.

Betta ocellata have been sparring which is a good sign.

Betta hendra are growing nicely still.

Betta enisae tank needs to be drilled ready for sumping so happy they are all just chilling out together.

Betta smaragdina have one very dominant boy, tanks a mix of self bred, imported, and bred by friends. Really need more tanks for them.

Have a tank of betta krataios were holding for a friend, lovely little guys.

Think that's everything we have now. Sumps hopefully set up in 3-4 weeks Time, which will mean crazy filtration for water quality, and can start hardcore live food feeding.
