Very nice dude, love your work! :D

Thank you Squiggle,

I think there are a lot better I have seen in these forums but I appreciate it. Just scraped the glass today and tomorrow I am going to cut the grass down a bit. So it should look presentable lol.

Thanks for the encouragement Squiggle haha.

It was a nice surprise cause i thought I had all males. I am still finding it hard to tell males from females. I cant tell if they have a saddle or not like with the red rili's haha

Need more tanks I want more varieties!

85% rilis

15% Crs and GBs

Hopefully I'll have a nice shrimp tank journal in a couple more weeks and I'll split the Crs and GB's into their own sections. Plan to make this one into a tank for tigers.

Havent done a update for this tank in awhile. I also have a new phone that seems to take decent pictures.

I have ripped out a heap of dwarf hair grass and other plants. Next step is to take out the rocks and rescape the tank. This will happen after i move all the shrimp to my new tank.

Also something of a little milestone for myself which has made me extremely happy. This is my first crs shrimplet to grow into an adult. It came from my the 3rd lot of crs to be born in my tank and one of 2 to grow to adulthood from that drop. I always thought i had two males until today. post-1014-0-19607500-1430745717_thumb.jp

Now that is one cute CRS!

Wish I had gone the normal hairgrass type now. The belem just doesn't look the same as it lays flatter.

Thanks neo.

I am very happy with her as she is born and bred in this tank. Hopefully she produces tge 2nd generation of crs.

The issue with the hair grass it just takes over the whole tank. I had a nice hc carpet but it got over grown by the hair.

Very nice.

I'm starting to notice that too. I can spot a few strands of hairgrass in the gaps between HC.

Pulled out all the rocks in an effort to get the wp under control and this is the result.

Not happy with it atm i have a nice piece of drift wood ronskitz gave me and some trident fern so hopefully over the next couple of weeks it'll look better.

Also put up some oebt i bought off JPN. Really happy with these beauties. Big thanks to JPN very generous and great guy. Sad to see another great keeper leave the hobby.

Made a few more changes since the last update. A few more changes and plants to be added. Also wanted to introduce a couple of new arrivals.

Finally starting to find oebt Shrimplets and some of them are stunning. Yaaahooòo!!!

20150705_234118.thumb.jpg.cd0a51b87b63cc hoping for a tank full by Christmas.

20150705_234142.thumb.jpg.b779d381168496

A few pale blue to colourless oebt shrimplets too. Will let them mature a bit to see if they colour up. Fingers crossed.

Proud mum.

      Hello Fellow ShrimpKeepers!
I started a planted tank approximately two weeks ago and the tank was cycled as of yesterday. I decided that I would have a crack at Red Cherry Shrimps as my clean-up crew. They're such delicate and peaceful creatures, I just knew I had to have some.
I plan to keep some shrimp specific shrimp tanks later on, but for now I'll be growing this tank out. My tank currently has 4 glowlight tetras in there, which I made the mistake of buying because I couldn't tell the difference between them and glowlight (hengeli) rasboras... I looked for the word glowlight at my LFS and said yup, they're the ones. My second mistake was putting RCS in without knowing that glowlight would absolutely dominate my RCS.
I put 3 males and 3 female RCS into the tank, one female was obliterated within a minute, another male injured and 4 others being bullied.
I hope to trade away my glowlight tetras in due course, but am looking for a source for more RCS. They cost me a pretty dollar each which I thought was a bit steep considering they can be pests at times. I'm located in Sydney, Australia, so please let me know if you've got some RCS you're willing to let go.
On another note, does anyone know how hengeli rasboras will treat RCS? Otherwise, I may have to give them up and go with something like Darwin Algae Shrimp or Ghost Shrimp.
Without further ado, I thought I'd share a photo of my tank:
      1. The setup:

      2. Filling the tank up:

      3. The plants growing out:

Oops did I mix them around?

Ok then. Will add more plants to try and reduce nitrates.  Thanks Simon and JayC for the pointers and hints. I think the Dino Spit is the Glutaraldehyde and the Dino Pee has the macro and micronutrients. I will leave off the Glutaraldehyde and reduce the dose of the Pee to one third. I am pretty careful with the dosing.  Good news is that there are at least two RCS females still in the tank and looking well. Maybe they went and hid and moulded after the big water change? The surviving  DAE are all looking well.  Anyway will take all your advice on board and do smaller water changes and work out a dripper system.

jayc's comments on letting remineralized water sit around got me thinking.  I've had pre-mixed up batches of water sitting around for a month or more with no obvious growth.  I asked the Salty Shrimp people about this, but unfortunately they replied back to me in German, and google translate doesn't seem to work too well.  So if anybody knows German, here is their reply: " prinzipiell ist es kein Problem dein mit Bee Shrimp GH+ aufgesalzenes
    • beanbag
Even though this isn't the acute cause of your problem, the nitrates are too high.
