Shrimp Club Victoria October 12th Meeting

Recommended Posts

That would be amazing!

Any donations are always welcome.

I believe we are hoping to build towards a proper shrimp show. So any money we raise from donations, raffles, auctions will help towards that, and making the club a great social event.

It was a great day at the Shrimp Club Meet, just shame my other half ducked out and came home late so I missed Jamie's talk though.

I was a lucky winner in the raffle and picked up some Tantura IAL leaves, Shrimp & Baby food and the Salty Shrimp Minerals +gh/kh I've been looking at getting for my RCS tank. I also got to finally pick up the 20+ Chameleons for $20 while I was there, and I couldn't help myself at the Auction. I picked up a juvie Extreme KingKong (pic below) with 2 f8-f9 juvie Mischlings for $65 and 15 CRS for $30. Glad I sold some RCS so I could actually spend a little money on shrimp without getting into trouble for it lol.post-868-0-26096000-1413525934_thumb.jpg

The CRS were great quality too. I also got a pack to add new genes to my colony, they have coloured up so nicely!

The crs in the auction and for sale were actually from a prl project, which were originally part of az's line I believe?

Yes. Next meeting is January 17 in Clifton hill.

Slight changes to original plan.

Now Jamie will be talking dumps and systems. I will be talking about the upcoming shrimp championship, and we will have a some group discussions.

As always trade table, bring a plate of food to share, shrimp to sell, money to buy shrimp. and a good attitude. :)

pmsl! rofl!

I don't mean to disappoint anyone but I wont be giving a talk about dumps!!

I will be talking about sumps and rack setups. From the very small amount of knowledge I have.

If you will be in Melbourne get along to it, it's always great to meet everyone.

And if you're nice, I wont talk for too long!!!

It was a lot of fun, thanks Squiggle. It was great to meet a few more local shrimp people, Jamie gave a great talk and I came home with a WR and RR which I did hope to pick up there. I also grabbed a pack of your Boss Balls which will be the first of any such product to make it into my tanks. Thanks for your support dude!

Totally forgotten about the meeting - should have put it into my calendar. Definitely would come next time. Any good pointers to share, kizshrimp?

Best pointer when coming to Shrimp Club, save up before hand. Too many temptations.

I did get a couple of photos, which I will put up this week.

Thanks for the support Jay, the Boss product sold really well. Not surprisingly!!

Was great to meet some more SKF members in person! It was a great gathering I thought. And nobody fell asleep during my presentation, so I was pleased with that!!

We had an open forum at the end for everyone to share experiences and goals. Was good everyone was comfortable to join in and lots of great ideas raised!!

I really hope the other states can follow suit and get clubs going, it is a real benefit to the hobby I believe!!

For anyone who missed out, best way to know about the meets is to come along ;)

Saying that.

Next meeting will be a shrimp championship.

Still a work in progress, but things are starting to come together.

Here's a poster we may be running with, but will need sponsors added to it.

Saying that if anyone has a business and would like to sponsor. email [email protected]

Doesn't need to be shrimp related either.

Also it can be just as a person.

Look forward to seeing the pics!

Would be good to have a NSW shrimp club but I would be a bit apprehensive to get involved depending on who ran it.

How is your shrimp comp going to be set up in terms of at the venue do you know ?

Competition will be held at the aquarium society of Victoria's hall.

Working out final plans for tanks and substrate. Hall fits roughly 8 tables side by side along the wall so heaps of space. Especially if we do 10-15l tanks.

Event will be open to interstate entrants.

There will be entry fees, cheaper if you are an asofv member.

The hall is inner north. 5 minute drive from the city. Or the hall is roughly 100m from a train station.

Very easy location to get to

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Hi Guys,  Does anyone know where to buy PRL shrimps in WA, not the CRS please. Thanks Regards

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
