Are either of these the menace known as Utricularia gibba?

Ugh I thought so.

I just happened to read a thread on it and was like "hmm that plant seems familiar" and looked up a few more posts on it.

Crapballs.

The bottom plant seems slightly different to the top. Are they the same plant (i.e. growing differently in different conditions) or different variety?

The first is what I know to be Gibba. It looks quite light in colour compared to what I have seen.

The second is different but if you are unsure of what it is, might pay to remove it?

I originally thought the Gibba was nice until it took over.

Thanks 2ofus & newbreed! I'll try find more info on them :)

Part of me is excited to see it in person. I'm sure that'll change.

I was the same as I collect carnivorous plants and was very excited to finally see an aquatic carnivorous plant. I removed it from the tank and thought I'd see how it would go at keeping the mozzie larvae at bay in my cp water trays. I have to say it worked a treat during Autumn and I'm looking forward to see how it works in the warmer months. Over winter the cp's don't like to stand in the deep water trays, so I put the UG in a 70 cm tub, outside in the cold, and it's filled the tub.
