Something interesting is happening to my Chocs

Recommended Posts

I was having a look at my chocs tonight, they are in a pretty dark tank & I can't see them very well, so I got my torche & discovered this very interesting thing that is happening to almost all of them. :thumbsu:

Exactly the same thing is happening to mine atm. A genetic defect or just nature taking its course? Hmmm.....

p.s. you have a lot of snails in your tank... haha

I had the same thing with mine, looked more like the red was trying to push through.

Interesting...but I'm with Shrimp aqua and hope they are not just fading due to stress of some sort. (Yeah...call me pessimistic again! )

But on the other hand I know how well your chocs are doing so maybe they ARE blue and you just didn't notice because the tank is so dark

....until you used the torch to look at them.

A mate had the same thing and I didn't know what was going on.

I hope it's not an omen but his females died whilst they were berried.

Hopefully it's just a colour change, they are really cool looking shrimp.

Cheers mick

I'm thinking it's just a colour change, as you can see from the pics, the babies are mostly coming out blue. :thumbsu:

I have had a few like that but I also had a couple of deaths shortly after. I was worried it might be something wrong and when dead the red patch was very pronounced

Ok, I'll keep an eye on them but the WP are all fine at the moment, we'll see how they go in the next few weeks. :thumbsu:

Good luck! I'm hoping mine will be OK as it only started happening a couple of weeks before I left. I haven't added any new stock to my blood line either and thought that might have something to do with it??? They are all from my original girls that I got from Dean ,March last year.

It's a static holiday. We are staying at my brothers place to look after horses , cattle , sheep, dogs, chooks and half a cat - only has 2 legs - so plenty of checking in time! Oh and guppies in the water troughs? ??? Haven't seen them yet!

I'm getting an error loading Articles but only when signed in to the forum.  Tested with  latest Firefox Quantum 69.0  and Edge.  Articles load perfectly  if I sign out, but not when signed in.

If not prime,  you will have to use another de-chlorinator, as chlorine  will kill the bacteria. It might still cycle with prime,  but maybe a bit longer. Do you have access to one that doesn't bind ammonia?  No need to change the water  until you see ph drop below 6.5.

Hi, I'm cycling a tank ATM and I'm using Dr Tim's ammonia, stability and I do have prime. But I was wondering if prime would stall the cycle since the bacteria need ammonia to feed and prime turns it into a.non toxic form?  My ammonia's been pretty high for the past week and I've been trying to do a partial water change to keep the levels down, not going down, no nitrites. But I did just start cycling it last week.

It wasn't intentional, I was just putting the new shrimps into the tank, the dead shrimp just fell into the tank. I just purchased another 10 crabs today to make it a total of 22, but the shop put a few more in the bag for me, I will be keeping about 10 crabs, the others are for two of my friends, there tanks isn't setup yet, as these crabs are hard to obtain in Hong Kong, the last time I saw them available was over 5 years ago.
