I'm over the moon with them and now there are more!

I spotted a little tiny CRS type shrimplet yesterday that could only be from Trancy's first belly full of berrys. Also Mrs Brownnose is due in about 9 days or so and 1 of our new girls is recently berryed too! So happy and excited about it all.

Seems our Mischy population is starting to grow and our RCS are starting to take over the tank and push the Mischys away from the food, I decided to give away most of our fish so I can setup the 80cm for our RCS, 1xCranky Male Bristlenose and Rasbora Maculattas. I just couldn't bring myself to find new homes for any of our RCS lol

Pmsl sure does Fishmosy, and there's only 1 cure 'more tanks' lol.

But with a partner like mine it's almost impossible to feed the addiction, for now. Will be a different story once our little girl starts school and I can go back to work though. I'll be earning a wage again then so he's excuse of 'I'm the one that works to earn any money we have so only I get a say in how it's spent' will fly out the window. Boy do I have plans lol (rubbing my hands together cackling with glee at thought). I've pinpointed every area in the house that will fit and benefit from the addition of another tank. So 2016 is going to be an awesome year, both our kids will be in school, I can go back to vet nursing and finish my studies to become not just an xperiencd vet nurse but a qualified vet nurse as well, I can buy more tanks and shrimp and I can get another Rottweiler that will hopefully teach our Staffy a thing or 2 lol.

I know the feeling. Had to cut back on the number of tanks I had (roughly 20) to just 5 as I got close to finishing my PhD. Now I'm almost done, its not long until I can get them filled up again.

  • 3 months later...

I've managed to talk OH into letting me build a rack that has the sump in cupboard on the bottom, then 3 x 2ft divided tanks on top so I can start seperating the panda, tibee, kk or RR, snow white shrimplets that are now popping up in the tank. But after I finally managed to draw up some designs and worked out the measurements I realized a 4 tier rack just wasn't very maintenance/viewer friendly. So I've changed the plans a little to a cupboard with a sump with 2x2ft divided tanks on that then another shelf with 2 x 2ft divided tanks. He doesn't know yet, and won't know until I've finished it and set it all up, that way he has no chance of stopping me from doing it. Luckily work has him away from home for days to weeks at a time so I can set it up without him knowing lol

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Hi Guys,  Does anyone know where to buy PRL shrimps in WA, not the CRS please. Thanks Regards

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
