 my shrimp have arrived. long story but they got a bit lost in transit. very stressful day. but totally worth it

the tank seems to be stable now. still have three shrimp. came home last night and my only ( I think ) female is berried. so excited

I'm a little stressed this morning. worried that I might overfeed them and foul the tank. what would be the best to feed 8 spidermen ( or women ) and how often. ps. they look very happy swimming around the tank. they seem to love surfing on the filter water that is dribbling into the tank.

The best food for your shrimp is a good biofilm on the wall of the tank, I never clean the side & back glass of my tanks as this is a good source of biofilm. A good variation of foods is the way to go to supplement feeding, IAL(almond leaf) & Mulberry leaves are great as you can just leave them in the tank till they've been stripped down to their skeleton. Also, some commercial foods once or twice a week are good too(shameless plug here!) My Shrimp Crack & Shrimp Snow are great to give to your shrimp a couple of times a week & there are a couple of other Benibachi food on my site as well. :thumbsu:

might have to get some of those foods off you :) I did put an Indian almond leaf in there today with a quarter of an algae wafer. they don't seem to like that. no one has been near them that I have seen. what was that plant you had in the bag? they seem to like that more than anything. will it grow from that piece or just die off?

They will graze on the biofilm on plant leaves as well. Try the different foods, just try to remove any leftovers after a few hours. IAL can be left in until they become skeletons and Shrimp Snow can stay in for days without fouling the tank, it will help good bacteria to grow.

Exciting times, the shrimp look great!

If the plant you're talking about is the one in the third photo it looks as if is would be pellia or subwassertang, both closley related liverworts if i'm not mistaken (good chance of that though)

yes that is the plant I mean. they seem to like to congregate on it most of the time. Might need to look around and try to get some more

I think I have had my first shrimp moult. either that or I lost one. I have made a couple of adjustments to the tank. I was watching videos and noticed someone had some white bio noodles in their tank for hidyholes, so I added 4. I also put my sponge filter back in there. think it was a good move as the sponge filter seems to be their new favourite hangout. I have just added a photo. hopefully it is just an old shell

Hahaha, yeah everyone freaks out seeing their first moult. It's just a sign that your shrimp are happy in their new environment, well done! :D

my TDS kit arrived today. so I tested and it came up 174 is that alright. I also retested my ph 7.4 and ammonia 0 and both nitrates and nitrites at 0. problem is I lost 2 of my females over the last 3 days. not sure what the problem could be. has me worried I have done something wrong :sad:

All those parameters seem ok for cherries, have you got any rocks in the tank & have you checked you GH(general hardness) & KH(carbonate hardness)?

      Finally set up the 30L Shrimp Tank

      It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

      I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding?       Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

      You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
