Reverse osmosis on rainwater vs tap water ?

Hi all,

I used to have rainwater in shrimp tank but not having much success breeding.. thinking maybe the pollutants or metals in the rainwater causing the problems, so now want to try RO/DI on CRS.

Since rainwater has already low tds, if I filter it with RO/DI, will it produce faster water flow and less waste water? Is it able to remove any harmful microorganism in rainwater?

thanks guys.

RO/DI water is definitely better than rainwater as the TDS(Total Dissolved Solids) is zero & rainwater is very low but you still cannot be sure what runoff is in the water. The main thing you have to remember when using rainwater or RO water is to remineralise the water back up to the correct TDS, usually about 100-200ppm, & using Salty Shrimp minerals is the easiest way to do this. :encouragement:

I like your thinking with the amount of waste water & I'd be very interested to know if this is the case but I'm pretty sure the flow rate won't change though. :D
