Looking for MODs

NoGi

Recommended Posts

With me spending less time as a mod and more on the back end stuff now, it's a good time to put the call out to see if any one wants to volunteer as a mod.

If you are interested, send me a PM with a little about yourself and how you can help.

cheers,

Nogi

There's so many great members here ... lots of options, but perhaps some are "concern" to venture down the path ? Suggest the "responsibilities" of a mod be briefly outlined, so that members here can consider it, and know what it involves. All the above member who have commented have my vote !

I'm too politically incorrect to be a mod .....

Bluebolts has mentioned a few times now he thinks he is unsuitable for a mod position, amusingly in my mind this actually makes me want to see him as a mod even more lol. I like when people admit shortcomings

Ineke as mentioned above is on the forums alot but also has a good persona and frequently points out when threads are hijacked etc so I think she'd make a great candidate!

Squiggle can never be overlooked as a great contributor to the forum! My only concern is that I know he can be busy at times and has only just started to run Boss so I imagine he might desire some time to relax or focus on his current projects. But if he was to be offered / accept a role as a Mod I think we all know he's do great.

GBang gets a vote, another well respected member with a passion for quality

AquaThumb and Twellsy are two other names that also spring to mind, mostly for their regular and helpful posts.

Oh BristledOne thank you but it's usually me that does the hijacking LOL I just point out when someone else does it to take the heat off me.

Also thanks guys but I think I would not be a good mod -although I'm not sure really what the role in-tales - I have already caused too many problems on here -that's why I don't comment as much as I used to.:slapped:

I +1 to everyone who has been mentioned.

Squiggle has always been very kind and helpful, always there to greet new members and motivate, encourage and lend a helping hand too. Squigglw is one I turn to for advice or questions and I always prioritise his answers over others (sorry guys lol).

Squiggle gets my vote.

However as the new BOSS (as BristledOne mentioned above) he may not feel up to it.

Ineke is always on the forums and always gives me a laugh with her crazyness (crazy in a good way I promise :P)

She has a well known name on the forums and would also make a superb mod.

BB is kind and extremely generous. Always has excellent ideas including the above suggesting to outline the mods responsibilities (lol)

However if you TRULY dont want to be a mod BB then I take my vote away haha

There are so many people on here that deserve a mention but I am quite lazy at the moment. Im sure ill come back with someone else to nominate though. Lol!

SKF is as much a community as it is a specialist forum...so mods don't have to be "experts our experience shrimp hobbyist".....presume anyone with good intentions, reputation and an active member should apply....or get nominated.

Hahaha, thanks for the words of encouragement guys, it really means a lot to me to hear all of you say what you have. In response to some of your worries about my new venture, I will make a pledge right here that I will always have time for all of you amazing people, as it is you that have helped me become who I am. You guys & girls are always motivating me to do better & come up with new & better ideas to help you be as successful at breeding & keeping these gorgeous little critters as I have become. Thank you all, you are all the reason that SKF is as fantastic as it is. :encouragement:

I think this is a good point as forums vary in terms of what mods undertake so would be good to know if it is a general thing or if just responsible for selected things :).

I'll post more info on what a mod does here tonight or tomorrow morning when I'm back in front of a computer.

Ok, to date mod work has been fairly easy as the community here is great. SKF works off 2 "staff" roles - admin and moderator. The role of the admin (ala skadmin) is to do the server side work (software updates, plug-in installs, user vetting, etc...). The role of the moderator is essentially content oriented.

In essence, an SKF mod would:

  • Maintain the harmony at SKF
  • Keep threads on topic and clean of behaviour that goes against the spirit of this site
  • Move\Close\Delete the ocassional thread
  • Ensure rules are followed in forums such as the For Sale ones

You don't need to be a shrimp expert to be a mod, nor do you have to mod the whole site. I can create section moderators if required. Any other questions give me a yell.

I used to moderate a forum about 8 years ago, but I'd be too busy yelling at ineke and Squiggle for thread hijacking to be useful lol.

From what you listed nogi a mod wouldn't really need to do much.everyone pretty much sticks to the rules,

Well except for a few who are thread hijack experts haha.

Could it be mostly done from a phone with the full site (not tapatalk)? Or would the computer need to be turned on occasionally?.

I am thinking having a go at it if I have the support of members, sounds like a good excuse to be on the forum more often.

Cheers mick

Good stuff Mick - I fleetingly thought about it but I can only behave for so long and then I just have to hi-jack a thread -can't help it -it just happens and that's not a good look for a mod:rolleyes:

HAHA, drats!

Thanks Wraithie. Appreciate the vote of confidence.

I had specifically stayed out of this thread and the conversation in the hopes of avoiding notice.

Do mods still get to enter comps? Cause I'd still like to participate.

I vote Wraithie 4 SKF Mod !

You don't want me as Mod. First thing I'd do is Sticky all my own posts. :P
