CBS selective breeding tank- reset model

Recommended Posts

Okay. I finally have to admit that my tank just look like some kinda greenish whatsoever.

Breakout of algae just driven me mad.

It was firstly hair algae that boomed, followed by all sorts of algae and now da*n brush algae is growing from substrates :cower:

I'm resetting my tank to make it a little bit more prettier or not even pretty, just not this greenish mess.

Thicker acrylic sheets are ordered to use as dividers as current dividers are bending.

Tank reset plan

Tank: 900mm x 350mm x 300mm

Susbtrate: Black earth premium normal 9L + Benibachi powder 5kg

Water: R/O water

Filter: Sera sponge filter

Air pump: YoungNam blower

Water conditioner/buffer: Fulvic acid, Benibachi bee max, shrimp balls, ADA bacter100, Tetra vital, Tetra black water, PSB, Seachem stability, etc

As soon as all items arrive, I'll start resetting the tank.

Main worry ATM is that how long it'll take to get 80L of R/O water... lol

Sounds like it's going to be a very cool setup, can't wait to see it all finished. :encouragement:

Depending on how fast you RO unit filters water but mine will do four 25L drums in about 12hrs. :victorious:

Which gpd unit do you use Squiggle?

I'll be getting 50gpd which will give me around 7-8L per hr in my calculation... :crushed:

No.., wait, isn't it about the same? :confused-new:

Yeah mine is about 200L per day or 50gal per day so yours should be about the same as mine. :victorious:

Nice one dude, just make sure you run it for an hour or two to flush it out otherwise you won't get accurate readings. :victorious:

Hey Squiggle i have flushed it for 2hrs but have not started to collect water yet, waiting to set up collection tank.

Sounds good dude, just fill a cup with some filtered water & check the TDS is around zero, should be right by now. :encouragement:

Looks pretty good dude, just want to check that you know the hose on the right of your pic is the waste water? That's meant to go down the drain, on the garden, whatever you decide to do with it, the one on the left is the filtered water. If you have both lines running into the tanks the you won't be doing anything, just splitting the water & mixing it up again. :encouragement:

Yep. I'm pretty aware of that, thanks Squiggle:redface-new:

I was just running water for 1-2 hrs to the sink to ensure I get clear reading

OK here is a follow up to my previous post after installation of new RO DI system. Having flushed unit for 2hrs to clear any contaminents, i then tested TDS & EC readings which were 0, flow from produce outlet is 1lt per 5min, waste is 1.5 lt per 5min. So for each 10 lt of water used i get 4lt of product and 6lt of waste. This will give me approx 288lt over 24hrs, this seems to be within advertised data supplied by vendor. What is the recommended way to add salty shrimp minerals? add to total water produced or add to water only being used at water change. Thanks in advance.

I keep the RO water in sealed drums till they're needed, then I mix up only the amount of water needed for the WC. I use an airstone bubbling fairly strongly to mix the water & minerals, I usually leave it for about 10-15mins to make sure all the minerals have dissolved & then check the TDS to make sure it's where I want it. When it's ready I carry out the WC. :victorious:

This looks great! The items from Korea, comfortable sharing where you ordered from? Those acrylic shelves look awesome! Congratulations on the stunning setup dude, best of luck for the new year

-edit-

Grrrrrr it's driving me nuts, I'm sure I've seen those shelves in a display tank but for the life of me I cant remember where or what the shelves are called!

Very nice , I like those shelves too. There seems to be so much we don't have here no wonder we go overseas for things.

I ordered the shelves from someone who custom made it and sells it as there's not much shop selling those shelves and they are quite pricy.

You might have seen it from other forum when I opened a group buy on the shelves.

I can open another one here in SKF if enough people are interested :)

Other products I ordered are from Korean aquarium shop websites!

http://sangaqua.co.kr/

http://www.kingkongaqua.kr/

Those two shops are where I normally go to shop aquarium stuffs!

I'm sure i can help getting some stuffs if anyones interested as I always get them in:redface-new:

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Hi Guys,  Does anyone know where to buy PRL shrimps in WA, not the CRS please. Thanks Regards

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!
    • sdlTBfanUK
You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
