First sign of Planaria outbreak - Just purchased Internal Parasite Clear - Need Advice !!!

Hi people,

I have been losing a shrimp a day for the last week.

After extensive time spent infront of the tank studying them I finally noticed Planaria

I then set up a Planaria trap using a mout Franklin Bottle and a dead shrimp and the next day I had caught a dozen or so Planaria.....

Anyhow I have internal parasite clear after reading some people have had success with the product.

The instructions on the bottle are as follows.

External treatment: Dissolve the medical powder before treatment. 5G of the product is applicable to every 100 liters of water for 3 days. Continuous three application in every 3 days intervalcan achieve its due effect. 1/2 water change is required before treatment.

So im reading this as 5 G it to be applied for every 100 L of water - 3 treatments are required - 3 days apart. with possibly 50% water change between treatments ?????

Can anyone advise me before I kick some Planaria ass !

Are you saying the planaria is the cause of deaths? Cause that's unlikely. And would the medication stress out already ill shrimp?

Have you been doing water changes?

yea just do as instruction it will be reduced within 3 days. and reduce feeding the shrimp too/ remove if not eaten within 3 hours. dont forget do water changes after treatment cause that can make ammonia spike. just do 10-15% each day would be safe

That stuff is unreal, I did a double dose on my black cherries & most of them died on the first treatment & I haven't seen one since I did the second dose, best part about it was all the shrimp, shrimplets included, survived. I was well impressed with it & would highly recommend it to kill planaria when you have an outbreak. :encouragement:

yea i have been using the product before, it caused by over feeding. it clear up. but it will come back again of you start over feeding again. but it doesnt harm shrimp/ shrimplet. just do follow the instruction / less dose and youll be safe :)

thanks mate - so you have used the product before ?

  • 3 weeks later...

Ok heres a update -

After 3 treatments (3days apart with 50% water changes between) I can confidently say that im not seeing any large Planaria in the tank...

I have however seen on the odd occurence a small worm like parasite around 10 mm in length swim through the water as it flexs back and forth and dissapear into moss or substrate.... .

after seeing this a few times and quickly removing them from the tank I proceeded to do another double dose of parasite clear....

Here is a video of me and the missus as i find another one of these little buggers...

Question - is this a baby Planarian?

The video doesn't work for me but it sounds like you are describing a Nematode, they are harmless to shrimp. :encouragement:
