My blue cherry shrimp

This is one of my Blues from Chocolate juvies. Pretty sure it is a boy. I don't know where to go from here. What type of blue do I need to aim for? I know it is often up to the breeder which direction and colour to go for but do I try and pick a lighter blue, a more see through blue- I need help so I don't loose what I have got right now:confused:. I did a big cull of my chocolates yesterday and once I find homes for them I will have a few spare tanks. Any input would be greatly appreciated:D

That's awesome Ineke, very dark colour & almost completely solid, well done! :encouragement:

Personally I would try to find a girl that's as dark & solid as him, I think the darker & more solid blues are less common & therefore more desirable, then with those two I would work on getting the colour on to the legs & hopefully more opaque & a more uniform colour, but that's just me. :victorious:

Thanks Squiggs so if I haven't got a female like him- I have put them back in to the PH 6.5 tank and they have still to settle in- what about putting him back to Mum. She is a very deep black but under bright light you can see the base is blue. I do have quite a few that are a light blue -a bit like the blue tigers -where you can see through them -I guess they would be better than anything not showing blue?

Thankfully the generations happen so quickly I guess I will see where I'm going in a couple of months.

Now need to find some room -and no not more tanks less shrimp:D

He's a beautiful blue Ineke. I would cross him back with Mum, she obviously has blue genetics. Look forward to next generation!! Great work!!

Thanks Newbreed don't forget to keep an eye on your chocolates they have the same genetics so one could pop out at any time! But then you have some beautiful blues anyway:encouragement:

This is the other type of blue cherry I'm getting. I think I prefer this one -maybe because if you squint and look quickly it looks like a Tiger- sorry that's the best picture I can get of the little beastie:D

Yes that light blue is much nicer but it needs a bit of depth so I will try finding a couple of light females to put with that dark boy and see if that clicks. Just have to make a bit of room first:)

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Hi Guys,  Does anyone know where to buy PRL shrimps in WA, not the CRS please. Thanks Regards

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
